3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gregis (1250) - Shawnee, Kansas, USA - JUN 28, 2009
Pours a nearly clear gold with a thin beige head and sheeting lace. This is one of the palest and clearest IPAs that I’ve ever seen. The nose is floral, fruity and lightly citric with a mild pale malt note in support; pretty subdued for the style. On the medium side of light-bodied, the palate is fairly quaffable. While it’s not quite "slick" it’s fairly poundable for an IPA, finishing with a subdued bitterness. Mirroring the aroma, only with a touch more intensity and better integration, the flavor is a blend of floral, fruity and lightly citric hop notes over a light malt backing. While I’ve had several IPAs that are more pleasing to the nose and palate, I can think of no other that matches this one for quaffability. (I love making up words.) Overall, its a decent IPA disguised as a pretty solid session beer. Given it’s ABV, that has the potential to be a dangerous combination.

Nice fruity smell, flavor starts good but turns rough quickly. Almost metallic. Not a favorite IPA at all.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Heathen (1241) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - NOV 1, 2011
THOUGHTS: Solid IPA, but nothing unique. Definitely well made. Nice and dry. Could use a little more malt to balance things out, but still nice.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, dark yellow to light orange with an average, slightly off-white head that mostly diminished and left excellent lacing. The aroma had light pale malt; even lighter caramel; and moderate pine and citrus hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and light to moderately bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and moderate to heavily bitter with an average to long duration. There was pale malt, slight caramel, lots of citrus hops and a little pine and metallic hops; the light to medium body was fairly dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry and lightly metallic finish.

6 pack from MCAS Miramar Marine Mart: Hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is lightly grassy citrus and pine. Flavor starts fruity sweet with citrus followed by a sweet, semi-dry grapefruit bitter finish. Medium body is creamy with moderate carbonation.

Bottled. Beer is clear light gold. Head is small, white, frothy/bubbly. Mostly lasting.
Malty with light notes of toasted grain; Hoppy with moderate notes of herbal resin/pine, grapefruit oil, lemon zest; Yeasty with traces of dough and wet cement.
Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter with a long, lightly/moderately bitter, moderately acidic, lightly sweet finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery/syrupy and the carbonation is average.
Not bad, but not engaging.

On tap at Brouwer’s hop fest. Light copper. Nice hop taste is not at all over the top. Tasty, a good NW drinking IPA.
