In early 2014 Alaskan re-branded their IPA as Icy Bay IPA

The very intense, complex aromatic character with a refreshing, crisp finish is achieved by dry hopping. The fruity, citrusy aroma is a nice complement with grilled prawns and spicy foods.

A very easy to drink ipa. Not too bitter, hoppy or malty. Has a slight bitter finish. Pours orange in color with white head. Had at home. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

For an IPA, it's not very hoppy. The bitterness is mild but has a great maltness. More malty than hoppy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"fruity and bitter. a pretty decent effort, but i think itís missing a couple of the hop varieties i like in an IPA. A little bit more of a malty backbone would go a long way in the balance department too. Overall a pretty good beer, but under average for an IPA (one of my favorite styles). "

Bottled. Pours orange with a short head. Short retention and minimal lace. Aroma is resiny and barnyard with a hint of citrus. Medium bitter flavor. Light plus body with a crisp bitter finish. Itís nice to meet an IPA at this ABV, which seems rare these days. However, the qualities within are not ones that I would seek again.

I think anticipation was the saviour of this beer. Itís obviously a rarity that this beer had come all the way from Alaska to the complete opposite side of the Pacific where it was enjoyed... and it was enjoyed. Yellow-gold colour with a finger of white head that sat, thought about sitting there and then collapsed on me. Good clarity and carbonation and the aroma was of zingy pine resin, green spruce needles and everything that is wonderful about Pacific NW hops. Then when it came to tasting I was actually slightly disappointed. I like writing about positive things, but this beer was unbalanced. It lacked body and the accompanying maltiness. It needed to have a big body to match that sublime aroma, but it didnít. I enjoyed this beer because of its promise, the aroma and the feeling I was trying something truly exotic. Ah well. There were no faults that I could ascertain except the lack of body. A pity.

12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured a transparent copper/brown color, sits very still in the vessel, extremely low carbonation. Razor thin white ring for a head minimal lacing, if at all. Aroma of pine and light caramel. Hits the mouth with a light body, malt tastes like it was stripped of itís caramel right before it was brewed, middle has an ever so light hop wave, finish is only slightly acidic. Iím sure itís old- no beer for almost 30 days sucked, but long story short, Iím glad Iím alive and I still have my right leg- kinda.

Gold pour with creamy white head and lace. Aroma is caramel malt and resiny/citrus hops. Flavor is semi sweet caramel malt with a touch of bready. Medium bodied a tad fizzy followed by a nice solid bitter finish. Nice beer all round
