3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 17, 2008
12 oz bottle. Pours a dark yellow gold body with a slight yeast haze. Fizzy off-white head that faded to a thin film fairly quickly. Fairly muted nose, just some light citrusy and piney hops with a little bit of orange rind and bready malt. The flavor is minimally bitter and not especially hoppy, I would have guessed that this fell into the APA category were it not for the name and the slightly elevated ABV. Slightly sweet and very bready and yeasty malt backbone. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky on the finish with moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, this just did not live up to my expectations for the usual quality of Alaskan’s offerings.

Bottle thanks to zinister. Pour is cloudy copper with medium white head. Aroma is mildly hoppy, medium malt, and hints of fruit. Flavor is a bit disjointed: hops, malt, and yeast. Not a bad IPA but tastes a bit oxidized.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1616) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 23, 2010
On tap in the Seattle airport. Incredibly clear. Yellowy amber with a thin bubbly white cap and tons of early lacing. Candylike aroma of sweet peaches, cotton candy, light caramel, light pine - smells juicy somehow. Tasty yet a touch thin. Lots of sharp pine and citrus hit quick. Tangy. Big bitterness with grapefruit, sweetness, apricot / orange and xaramel with seems only serve as a background flavor. Spicy and sharp. Incredibly carbonated - as in over carbonated. I really like the sharp citrus and pine bite that comes across blunt and clean. The last beer of my trip unless more flights are cancelled.

Bottle sampled at Alan’s HSC initiation, thanks Dogbrick: Aroma on this one is floral, tad of citrus rind. Resiny hop, some citrus, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Not too bad, but not all that memorable.
