Sampled at the ’12 GABBF. Deep amber color with a thin whisp of an off white head. Aged beer nose. Dark sugars and faint cherry notes. Nice rounded alcohol warmth with cherry and plum fruitiness and some red wine in the finish. Long hop pellet bitterness in the tail. Very drinkable for an old ale.

8oz pour at Humpys. Appearance is a hazy reddish-brown color. The smell is a sweet and malty with a definite alcohol note. The taste us chocked full of malty goodness with a sweetness and almost a taste similar to that of barley-wine style ales.

Growler fill from Brown Jug Warehouse ($6 for 32oz !!!!). Clear amber brown with a big foamy beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is lots of boozy whisky/bourbon, dry oak, toffee and some toasty malt. Flavor is more boozy whisky up front which blends into the caramel and biscuit dough malt character, no real noticeable hop bitterness. Medium body with soft carbonation and smooth, creamy mouth feel. This is an outstanding beer, real boozy up front but as it warmed the rich base beer came through more and made for a perfect balance. Nice job Alaskan.

Whoa. Taster at the source of it all. Hazy brown amber, thin white head, aroma of oak, vanilla, mild fruitiness, faint whiskey. Mm. Flavor is sweet and complex, took to the barrel really well, transforms to a crispy clean finish and then a light lingering hoppy tang and slight and pleasant alcohol presence throughout. What a treat.

Special beer for the 2012 Great Alaska Beer and Barleywine Festival Connoisseur’s session.
Delicious oak aged flavor. Hint of smoked malt. Rich flavor without being cloying. Good balance between malt and hops. Absolutely beautiful beer.
