COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Imperial IPA is a favorite of the Brew Crew and friends in Alaska, though they may remember it as "ALASKAN XTRATUF® IPA." Rich in color and full in flavor, our Imperial IPA is packed with Pacific Northwest hops over a sturdy malt body and the dry warmth of an imperial strength IPA. First brewed as part of our Rough Draft Series, the Pilot Series release allows us to share this draft favorite of the 49th state on shelves and taps in the lower 48.

22 ounce bottle from Total Wine, Scottsdale. Clear amber with ring head and nice lace. Piney and overripe orange and bread aroma. Toasty orange peach caramel sweet fruitiness and piney orange medium bitterness. Very full bodied, drinks way stronger than the abv. Enjoyable but not elite.

bottle from paps 3/30/11. coppery brown with a soft soapy off white head. big bubble gum aroma... mixed with caramel, mild green hoppiness, slight pine, citrus, calcium and a distinct note of ’necco’ candies with the corn starch/powdered sugar coating (this was prevalent in the baltic porter as well only in the form of marshmallow peeps). the palate is sweeter and more mellow than ideal...it’s not cloying but there is little in the way of hop bitterness to help it out. the flavor is comprised mostly of florals, candies and spice from alcohol and hops. the medium body lacks crisp-ness and something to save it from meh. 6/3.5/6/3/13

scoth (607) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 18, 2011
Pours clear amber with a thin beige head, very fine clinging lacing. Aromas of grapefruit, hay, a light earthy note, caramel, toast, and banana. Medium body, crisp and very dry. Mild sweetness, barely lemon, then a medium-strong bitter finish lingers. This is a big bitter beer. I really enjoy the hop blend and the solid malt backbone.

Bottle. Amber with a dense off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, bread, nectarines. Very sweet with light stone fruit and oranges to go with caramel and bread. Pleasant bitterness with some fruity aromatics at the end - finishes rather well I suspect the hop aromatics have lost a lot of punch here, but it’s still quite good if oversweet for my tastes.

DuffMan (7996) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle, shared with Parksy. Bright orange gold, hazy, pillowy white head that leaves patchy lace. Aroma is sweet citrus and toffee. Flavours lean more toward the malts than the Epic IIPA we had before this, and the hops are fruitier, more citrus and tropical fruit. Bitterness is there in the finish, but not as intense. A softer IIPA, but still enjoyable.

Strykzone (5532) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - NOV 4, 2011
UPDATED: JAN 21, 2012 Bomber from hayduke. A medium off white head of light bubbles. Light lacing. The aroma is citrus, tangerine, and caramel is pretty much classic. The taste is fairly bitter and is generally sweet. Hops are not all that big. They offer some fruit and spice. Caramel adds sweetness. This beer just seems like it could be more and it just doesn’t seem to be all that well crafted.

(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) clear amber with very thick creamy khaki-colored head. Nose of pineapple, citrus, orange pulp and cream. Taste of orange, pulp, cream, ginger, nice balance, creamy delicious finish.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with a lasting creamy beige head. Hoppy aroma with a strong caramel backbone and notes of grapefruit, lime, orange and pine. Flavour is very similar to the aroma altough the malt profile is a little more pronounced imparting hints of nuts and wood as well as caramel. Mouthfeel is slick and oily with moderate carbonation and a lingering, mildly bitter finish. Nice IIPA although oddly restrained for the style, almost muted. Pleasant and very easy to drink though.

Bottle. A murky reddish brown color with a foamy off-white head. A strong fruity aroma with a laced pine finish. Smooth on the palate with a wet bitter finish and a lingering grapefruit, mango, caramel and bubble gum finish.
