COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Imperial IPA is a favorite of the Brew Crew and friends in Alaska, though they may remember it as "ALASKAN XTRATUF® IPA." Rich in color and full in flavor, our Imperial IPA is packed with Pacific Northwest hops over a sturdy malt body and the dry warmth of an imperial strength IPA. First brewed as part of our Rough Draft Series, the Pilot Series release allows us to share this draft favorite of the 49th state on shelves and taps in the lower 48.

I wanted a little more from this beer than it delivered in the end, but all in all a solid effort by Alaskan. Head was a bit weak, as was the lacing and head retention. Grapefruit and passionfruit nose, nice weight on the palate and a nice balance of citrusy hop notes, substantial malt profile and lingering orange peel bitterness. Tasted from a bomber in a tulip glass. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reynolds314 (2334) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 5, 2011
Standard overly malty imperial IPA. Too sweet and malty tasting. Hops dont shine through very well. Light citrus and pine notes dont balance out the bready/caramel malty sweetness. Below average for the style.

Bottle courtesy of reynolds314, not to much on nose, more malts on nose than a typical ipa. Mostly light piney hops. But but they are on the west coast. Actually tastes a lot like green flash imperial ipa.

Bottle courtesy bu11zeye. Pours a hazy bright orange color with a light carbonation. Aroma is heavy aged hops, tree leaves and grass clippings. Sweet fruit nose. Flavor is sweet malts with a sappy hop flavor. This is very heavy on the hops with some sweet fruit. Tingles on the finish. Wow nice.

Sample from a bottle at Jackie O’s as part of Ohio Brew Week. The beer is a slightly hazy copper color with a medium off-white head that recedes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, malt and citrus. Medium body with flavors of hops, pine, caramel malt and a touch of fruit. The finish is hoppy up front with a sweet malty flavor left behind. Above average overall.

bottled, thanks to bu11zeye, dark orange color with thin foam, aroma is buttery caramels, flavor is brown sugar, toffee, minimal hops

marcus (6538) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUL 8, 2011
Bottle from Star Grocery, Berkeley. Pours murky orange with a decent beige head and a toffee aroma. There is a funky slightly sour caramel malt flavor with a dry bitter finish. There is very little sweetness, as in many DIPAs. A bit too caustic for me.

I would say skip it. It’s just not impressive at all. Mango pineapple nose. After that pretty boring for a double. Kinda falls flat. Color is good. Head is not there. You know how a double is supposed too smack you in the face or punch you in the stomach. This is like a second or third run of Mongo IPA.

ChazMania (653) - Pasadena, California, USA - JUN 23, 2011
Bomber poured into my Stone IPA glass- aroma is pleasing of pungent yeast and aromatic hops. Cloudy and murky dank dark orange; Taste is off balance, not quite sour but in that direction; really tangy in a not good way. The finish left me puckering for water. Not terrible but very disappointing for me personally.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Top Foods in Woodinville, WA. Pours a beautiful amber color with an off-white head. Aroma: Grapefruit peel and pine. Flavor: Same as the aroma, with a hint of orange.
