A full-bodied deep mahogany ale with ruby red highlights. Citrus notes of chamomile, grapefruit and Meyer lemon brighten the aroma. A zesty array of hop flavors from mango and bitter orange to green mint and hibiscus meld with the nutty, roasted caramel and subtle dried fruit flavors of the complex malt profile to create a surprisingly fresh, yet warming example of the style.

The pour is a clear mahogany color with a moderately full, cream-colored, pillowy, creamy head which is somewhat lasting and leaves thick lace. The nose has toasty and biscuity malts underneath, spicy hops, some resinous pine, light floral, and some ruby red grapefruit. The flavor is similar with more hops than the nose led on; very resinous and spicy, still the grapefruit notes, a fresh herb note developing, and subtle toast malts. The palate is nice for the style with a more than medium body, nearly lively carbonation, and a velvety, oily mouthfeel. The finish is mostly bitter and resinous with some fresh basil notes, light grapefruit, and a toasty note left on the tongue. The bitterness is just over moderate and the acidity is low to moderate. A pretty decent imperial APA-type beer; assertive but balanced bitterness, nice underlying malts, and hop flavor complexity. Nothing flashy, not over the top but very well built and drinkable. Alaskan small batch beers are usually quite good, and this was no different.

Bomber. Caramel malt sweetened followed by citrus hop notes. Pours a deep red color with one finger of tan head and a little bit of lacing. Starts with sweet caramel flavors with notes of citrus. Finishes dry with good citrus hop flavor. Nice red.

Bomber: dark red pour with a thick tan head. Aroma is toffee, bready. Piney hop. Light peppery spice. Flavour is fruity, some alc sweetness on front of palate. Bready and caramel. Pine and citrus hop through mid palate. Despite an obvious alc note, it manages to not be overly so. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium thick, tiny bubbled, well retained ivory head, with extensive lacing, over a clear effervescent, ruby brown (SRM 20) body......nose is pine, resin, citrus peel, tropical fruit including mango, light toffee/caramel, hints of cereal, toasted malts, minimal esters, balance to the malts......taste is sweet with tropical and dried fruit notes, hints of toffee/caramel, floral hop notes, with light spice, resin, pine, citrus peel, with a moderate lingering hop bitterness, balanced.....mouth feel, body medium, sticky mildly acidic, carbonation makes a creamy mouthful. This is a rich, sweet, with great complexity in aroma and flavor, beer. It is well balanced. It is quite soft, with a light hop bitterness. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

Bottle pours red ruby, off white head. Nose full of citrus and pine, resin. Taste has a solid malt base, some caramel. Hippiness hits hard, moderate bitterness, citrus, pine, resin. Medium body with plenty of carbonation to keep it moving. Very impressed.

Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a cloudy, reddish brown color, with a modest layer of tan, head froth, and dots & dashes of lacing. The nose was caramelly sweet and malty. Medium bodied, the taste offered a bit of fruit, but as the aroma, was mainly pro-malt, with spice & dryness as rye would project, earthy & lingering hop bitterness, and some tannic astringency that was mellowed by malt sweetness and some alcohol warmth. Pretty tasty.

Iím pretty sure this just came out this week as I see a bottling date of "best by 12/01/2014. Hmm...an 8.5 percent American Strong Ale, yessir, night before Independence Day, hell yeah, letís do this. This was poured into a sniffer. The appearance had a nice mahogany color with a thin to a fingerís worth of white foamy head that dissipated within a good minute. Thereís some light foamy somewhat sticky lacing but actually it ends up sliding after a bit of opening up. The smell was extremely awesome as it had a very nice caramel to citrus to pine to lightly spiced. Holy shit! Where the (fill in the blank) did this come from? It ends up opening up just a tad of light grapefruit to assort an absolutely stellar balance all around. The taste is extremely balanced between some awesome light bitter pine to grapefruit to extra tropical fruitiness jus t overtaking everything but still allowing a nice caramel strength to empower a certain boldness in the flavor. On the palate, thereís no ifs ands or buts, this one sits just a simple straight ip medium on the body. Thereís not much of a sessionable quality to it as I found myself sipping this. For a super fresh Strong Ale, I find the carbonation to be fairly subdued but still good for the style. Overall, wow, when fresh, ABC knocked this one outa the park, however given some of the previous reviews on this, Iím afraid to age it. Sorry, if I sound like a homer for giving such high marks, but if anything, drink as fresh as you can and many will see the same things I see.
