COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Perseverance Ale is a Russian Imperial Stout. This style was chosen to celebrate our 25th anniversary of brewing on the Last Frontier in our coastal home of Juneau, Alaska.

This complex and malt forward Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskan’s history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

To celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the Alaskan Brew Crew wanted to create a beer that was big, bold and brewed with ingredients from Alaska that could be enjoyed fresh or cellared to be brought out to remember the anniversary for years to come. The Russian heritage still present throughout our state make this Russian Imperial Stout a tribute to all that makes our beers truly Alaskan.

This limited edition Imperial Stout is brewed with glacier-fed water, birch syrup from the Alaska Birch Syrup Co., fireweed honey from Alaskan Bee Apiaries, brown sugar and an array of different malts including malted oats and a dash of our world famous alder-smoked malt.

The sturdy flavors in Alaskan Perseverance Ale pair well with rich and savory proteins ranging from fresh oysters to wild game meats. Custards, dark chocolate truffles, New York cheesecake and other creamy desserts bring out the the sweeter notes of fireweed honey, oats and brown sugar

Aromatics are a real strong point of this beer! I was very surprised at the barrel characteristics that this exudes with out having been barrel aged. Lots of alcohol notes that have a bourbon characteristic. Lots of Vanilla and caramel. Appearance is nice and thick, dark oil like, with a tan head that hangs out! Taste is outstanding as well! Starts with a lot of plums and other stone fruit has a nice caramel vibe. Palate is excellent. Overall this is a huge beer for me. Love it.

Pours black with little head. Honey, woody syrup aroma with touches of roasted malts. Big malt body with lots of brown sugar sweetness, roasted grain and honey. Really good sipping brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a viscous dark brown with a nice looking dark root beer head. The head dissipates slowly to a thin cap leaving laces of dark root beer foam around the glass. Literally no light passes through this beer. Sweet aromas of chocolate syrup, vanilla, and honey. Quite thick, but not necessarily creamy. Vanilla and chocolate up front with some honey notes. Dark roasted coffee on the back of the tongue. Appearance and aroma are a little misleading on taste, but not by a significant amount. Pretty good beer, overall. I would’ve liked to have paid a lot less than $10 for the bottle though. $5.99 at most.

22oz bottle, about a year and a half old. Pours inky black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, molasses, coffee and light liquorice. Flavor is rich dark chocolate, roasty/smoky malt, coffee, vanilla/alcohol warming and a light bitterness. Full body with a soft, smooth mouth feel. This is a great beer, every time I’ve had this is seems to get better and better, too bad this is my last bottle. A good one for #2000.

Opaque black beer, tidy tan head. Softish palate, a little dry. A little bubblegum underneath some even dark malt. Floral sweetness, well integrated. Trace of fruits and a pinch of spice. Off the beaten track and quite drinkable.

22-oz. bottle (9/27/2011). An inky black pour with a filmy dark brown head that disappears quickly. Lot of boozy soy sauce and molasses on the nose with a hint of smoky phenols. Smoked malt hits right away on the taste followed by licorice, a spicy vegetal tone, and a slightly sweet chocolate and honey finish. Light to medium body for a RIS, with low carbonation. This beer is solid but it hasn’t aged as well as I hoped.
