COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Perseverance Ale is a Russian Imperial Stout. This style was chosen to celebrate our 25th anniversary of brewing on the Last Frontier in our coastal home of Juneau, Alaska.

This complex and malt forward Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskanís history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

To celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the Alaskan Brew Crew wanted to create a beer that was big, bold and brewed with ingredients from Alaska that could be enjoyed fresh or cellared to be brought out to remember the anniversary for years to come. The Russian heritage still present throughout our state make this Russian Imperial Stout a tribute to all that makes our beers truly Alaskan.

This limited edition Imperial Stout is brewed with glacier-fed water, birch syrup from the Alaska Birch Syrup Co., fireweed honey from Alaskan Bee Apiaries, brown sugar and an array of different malts including malted oats and a dash of our world famous alder-smoked malt.

The sturdy flavors in Alaskan Perseverance Ale pair well with rich and savory proteins ranging from fresh oysters to wild game meats. Custards, dark chocolate truffles, New York cheesecake and other creamy desserts bring out the the sweeter notes of fireweed honey, oats and brown sugar

Acquired at AJís Arcadia in Phoenix. Wow! Poured slightly chilled. Gorgeous black body with medium brown head. Nose is incredible on this beer, with a rich dark chocolatey element and candied wood. Palate has a sexy, unctuous silky body that turns me on, firm roasty flavors with coffee, and more of the candied wood mentioned earlier. Clearly some smoked malt also. Honey quality in there too, but it could be planted there by the bottle description. Finish is more of the roasty flavors and wood to honey.

Super sweet on the nose. Tastes like a chocolate malt shake. Great imperial stout. Have I had a better, yes! Will I drink again, yes!

22 oz bottle shared with the group in May 2012. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma and flavor had some roasted malts, sweet honey, mild florals, a touch of smoke, brown sugar with a splash of bitterness at the finish. I enjoyed this at the time very much.

a: pours black with a little foam patch and ring. no lace. Plain appearance. S: smells sweet with esters. Hints of acetone and little else. Reminds me of a RIS I did that fermented entirely too hot. T: Smoky. Is there smoked malt in this? (reads bottle, doesnít say). Itís gotta have some smoke in it. Then some molasses tones. A sweet and dark malt profile with an interesting spice tone, must be the birch. M: Surprisingly thin IMO with moderate carb and a semi dry finish. O: Really disappointed with the overall structure of this beer. I think they missed the spot as their beers are typically robust and this one is delicate and sweet; a poor showing for their 25th anny. Serving type: bottle 12-08-2011

Pours black, with a big brown head. Smell is a big blast of maple, spruce, and a touch of honey. Taste is coffee, maple, a hint of molasses, honey, and some dark chocolate. Hint of oak, as well. I donít know that I could drink a ton of this - its very heavy - but pretty enjoyable in small doses.

Dark with no foam head. Aroma is not nice, think the pumpkin killed the beer. Taste is pumpkin pitty for the stout. (Houston 201310) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Deep black espresso under a burnt caramel head which lingers as a thin yet creamy layer.
Nose: Prunes, raisins, dates, and figs. Black root underneath. Chocolate covered maraschino cherries for some tart and savory notes. Fruitcake essence weaves in and out. Charcoal and burnt wood.
Palate: Medium weight with a clean mouthfeel that allows the richness of flavors to shine. Tart dark chocolate covered dates, prunes, and raisins. Dark breads and black cake. Fig in the middle. Burnt along the edges. Hints of fruitcake and dark chocolate covered maraschino cherries.
Final Thoughts: Not as heavy as some Imperial Stouts can be, I nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed this beers balance of flavor and quaffability. This is a tastefully sneaky beer I would be more than happy to get in trouble with on a regular basis.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with some light smoke with a bit of of underlying chocolate and honey. Flavor starts with roasted malts and smoke backed by just a bit of chocolate and a hint of honey.

Draft at bottleworks. 2011 i hear. Dark black pour with dark brown head that grows and grows after the pour finishes, as if the bubbles had to struggle to make their way up through the thick black goo. This is possibly the most viscous, dense liquid I've ever consumed outside of a milk shake. Thick, chewy smoked chocolate syrup. Hard to articulate more about the tastes when so much effort was expended convincing my mouth it was indeed a liquid! Overall: tasty, unique, intense, and difficult to finish a full glass of. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
