COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Perseverance Ale is a Russian Imperial Stout. This style was chosen to celebrate our 25th anniversary of brewing on the Last Frontier in our coastal home of Juneau, Alaska.

This complex and malt forward Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskanís history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

To celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the Alaskan Brew Crew wanted to create a beer that was big, bold and brewed with ingredients from Alaska that could be enjoyed fresh or cellared to be brought out to remember the anniversary for years to come. The Russian heritage still present throughout our state make this Russian Imperial Stout a tribute to all that makes our beers truly Alaskan.

This limited edition Imperial Stout is brewed with glacier-fed water, birch syrup from the Alaska Birch Syrup Co., fireweed honey from Alaskan Bee Apiaries, brown sugar and an array of different malts including malted oats and a dash of our world famous alder-smoked malt.

The sturdy flavors in Alaskan Perseverance Ale pair well with rich and savory proteins ranging from fresh oysters to wild game meats. Custards, dark chocolate truffles, New York cheesecake and other creamy desserts bring out the the sweeter notes of fireweed honey, oats and brown sugar

22oz bottle - Can you consider a beer that score a 3.5 or better a disappointment? I was slightly disappointed, because of how highly regarded I hold ABC and the fact that I know that they make above average beer. So for an anniversary beer thatís an imperial stout, Iím really hoping that this beer is more than above average and it really wasnít. The aroma starts off with the standard chocolate and coffee, but it seemed to meld with a combo of what I could only describe as molasses meets Pepsi. Very odd, and not entirely unpleasant, but nothing decadent or complex. Flavor has a strange combination of black licorice, chocolate, coffee, and cherry Pepsi. Again, not awful at all but very strange. I didnít pick up any smokey notes from the alder-smoked malts. A nice beer overall with some unique flavor profiles. But to celebrate their 25th year of production, I would think a superior product would be made.

probably close to average for an imperial stout, or a touch better, until the smoke starts to open up, which is the beers forte. it smells great ans is quite tasty, but lacks the dimension i was hoping for. between the birch syrup and honey, itís a little too sweet, but the decadent chocolate and little bit o smoke that comes through in the finish are quite nice. looks good, smooth beer. a little more bitterness and less sweet, and it would be elite."

A nice trade gift. Pours a deep black with a fair mocha head that settles quickly to a thin ring, hardly lacing but leaving a coating film on the glass. Nose involves a floral quality, syrupy notes, dark chocolate, nuttiness, some anise, and woodsy notes. Pretty sweet, fairly bitter. Thick but not heavy bodied, syrupy, soft, with a sticky yet drying finish. Unique, rich, and enjoyable. A cool experience.

22 oz. bottle via trade a few years ago. Pours a deep brown color with a moderately sized tan head. Aroma of chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, honey, syrup, toast, and cola. The flavor is the same. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty, roasty, sweet mouthfeel. Good, well-made imperial stout, but I wish I had opened this one a few years ago when it was fresh; I could detect age on it, which I didnít think did it any favors.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Aroma is a rich scent of dark roasted black malts that comes across rather subtle yet a hint of chocolate cocoa in the faint background. Lost the rest of the rating. **************Note 2 Self to buy this beer again!!!!

Pour is dark brown, close to black, with a thin khaki colored head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, honey, and dark fruit. Flavor is similar with added notes of caramel syrup, earth, and booze. Finish is warming and sweet/roasty.

Super sweet on the nose. Tastes like a chocolate malt shake. Great imperial stout. Have I had a better, yes! Will I drink again, yes!

22 oz bottle shared with the group in May 2012. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma and flavor had some roasted malts, sweet honey, mild florals, a touch of smoke, brown sugar with a splash of bitterness at the finish. I enjoyed this at the time very much.
