COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Perseverance Ale is a Russian Imperial Stout. This style was chosen to celebrate our 25th anniversary of brewing on the Last Frontier in our coastal home of Juneau, Alaska.

This complex and malt forward Imperial Stout is brewed with an array of local ingredients and flavors to add dimension and celebrate Alaskan’s history and home. Alaska birch syrup from Wasilla lends a deep, almost tart character to the dark malt profile, while fireweed honey from Delta Junction adds a delicate sweetness and floral notes to the aroma and finish. The slight addition of our in-house alder-smoked malt alludes to the distinctive roasted flavor of turn-of-the-century malting practices, without overpowering the more subtle flavors of this dynamic anniversary brew.

To celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the Alaskan Brew Crew wanted to create a beer that was big, bold and brewed with ingredients from Alaska that could be enjoyed fresh or cellared to be brought out to remember the anniversary for years to come. The Russian heritage still present throughout our state make this Russian Imperial Stout a tribute to all that makes our beers truly Alaskan.

This limited edition Imperial Stout is brewed with glacier-fed water, birch syrup from the Alaska Birch Syrup Co., fireweed honey from Alaskan Bee Apiaries, brown sugar and an array of different malts including malted oats and a dash of our world famous alder-smoked malt.

The sturdy flavors in Alaskan Perseverance Ale pair well with rich and savory proteins ranging from fresh oysters to wild game meats. Custards, dark chocolate truffles, New York cheesecake and other creamy desserts bring out the the sweeter notes of fireweed honey, oats and brown sugar

There are a lot of great RIS’s out there, but the combination of unique, local ingredients and its being an anniversary edition sold me on it. Pours black with a rich, medium brown head that is rather dark, even for a stout. moderate coarseness of foam, fades in minutes to a ring at the edges. Opaque, black. Refreshing soy, pine, chocolate, burnt wood, bbq, old Smokey cabin. Flavor is on the thick, soy side of things. old burnt wood/campfire. pinetree hops. I’m having a hard time giving this a low enough grade. body is perfect, thick and syrupy, with enough carbonation in there to keep it from getting to be too much. I wish I could have compared this side-by-side with Weyerbachers 15th anniversary smoked imperial stout. They are in the same vein for sure, this is probably smoother, the Weyerbacher a little bolder, but it’s impossible to really compare without having them at the same time. The complexity of the smoke and refreshing birch really come out in the flavor as it warms.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear dark brown color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, honey & maple, smoke and alcohol aroma. Moderate to heavy dark sweet toasted malt flavor with a moderate to heavy sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Bottle at home from my Minneapolis Town Hall glass. Pours clear deep black, thin pale tan head, fine lacing. Nose is tight roast, nice coffee, vanilla, some light coffee-crisp "chocolate bar" notes. Flavours are moderately dry, with great coffee and toast notes, molasses, light smoke. Not the very best, but pleasant enough.

Pots a thick black with a thick mocha head. Aroma of molasses, chocolate, roasty malts. Taste follows, chewy chocolatey. This is a very nice stout ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared by someone at the Monte’s Krown tasting yesterday. Pours a jet black with a thin eggshell head. Slight vanilla in the nose along with some oak and smoke. Taste is dry, anise. Average, I didn’t think this one was as good as everyone else at the tasting did. Wouldn’t buy it if I saw it in the store.

Bottle to snifter. Looks good; pitch black with nice head. Smells good; roasty and smoky. Tastes good; like it smells, only more subdues and with some sweetness. Good on the palate too. Tasty.

A smooth easy drinking impy stout with enough body and complexity to keep you entertained but not enough to stand up to some of the prime examples of this style. Toasty malt aroma. Flavor has a lot of vanilla and a smooth roasty malt flavor again with some cocoa and chocolate dominating a little later in the palate. A touch of alcohol and bitterness from a well hopped drink a little later. The finish is relatively quick. Toasty marshmallow is a nice descriptor. Shipped this bottle back from the last time I was out in Seattle.

750ml. Bottle: Got in trade from fiveacestx; THANKS Cam! Complex aroma of malt, chocolate, roast, slight alcohol, and a hint of smoke. Poured pitch black in color with a small, creamy, dense, brown head that disappeared except for around the edges. Opaque. Sparkling. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of malt, roasting, slight smoke, slight soy sauce, and a hint of chocolate. Medium to full body. Slick, creamy, then lightly chalky, lightly dry texture. Soft carbonation. Medium sweet, malt, roast, slight soy sauce finish is lightly dry. 9%ABV is noticeable in the nose but not the flavor.

Dark brown pour with a light tan head. Aroma of chocolate and soy sauce. Plenty of soy in this one, some caramel, chocolate, smoke, and ash as well. Thin finish. Not a big fan of a big smoky soy sauce bomb.
