Alaskan Raspberry Wheat is an American-style Wheat Ale that highlights the bright flavors and inviting aroma of more than 3,000 pounds of real raspberries added during fermentation. Years of local demand through Alaskanís Rough Draft program of draft-only releases and a Silver medal from the 2008 Great American Beer Festival make Alaskan Raspberry Wheat the perfect brew to launch the Alaskan Pilot Series.

This one surprised me. Cloudy red pour with slightly off white head. Faint fruity nose. The flavor is identical to Leinieís Berry Weiss except slightly less sweet with more hops in the finish. Much better than I expected. Not bad!

Poured from a bomber into a weizen glass in late 2013. A: Red, caramel color. Large fluffy head. S: Raspberry, wheat. T: Follows the nose along with some banana and very slight bitterness. M: Creamy smooth. O: This review is from my notes for the 2013 version. The raspberry went very well with the wheat and banana flavors. It did have a very slight edge to it, but that faded quickly. I loved it and wish that I could have had the 2014 version, but it was only released in Alaska this time.

Bottle 65 cl. Pours a hazy, deep golden with a lacing, white head. Rich, sweet raspberry aroma. Light-bodied, dryish and slightly chemical raspberry flavours. Dry and sulphurous finish. W<ell, at least not sticky sweet. Could work on a hot summerís day. 081114

22oz bottle - Hugely satisfying and immensely quaffable due to the generous amount of raspberry flavors found in both the aroma and flavor of the beer. Rarely do I find the raspberry flavors to be natural tasting, and carry some of the tartness found in fresh raspberries. Itís found here, along with some tannic seediness. Some light lemony notes can be found on the palate, and Iíd be hard pressed to say this is a wheat base beer just because of the amount of jammy raspberries that are presented here. Delicious.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2014 The appearance was a dark red color with a one finger white foamy head that dies within less than a minute, nice ruddy brown coloring on the sides, not much lacing. The smell had a super large amount of raspberrries definitely comes out in the aroma in a nice fresh sweet yet tart way. The taste was raspberry in the flavoring and is definitely backed up with the wheat to give it a fuller effect and to leave a raspberry deep wheat aftertaste. There was a slightly sticky sweet finish. On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium on the body, sessionable - hmmm....Iím actually going to say no and thatís due to the fact that the wheat just comes out pretty full for me. Carbonation is good for a raspberry wheat ale as its not overly done. Overall, a raspberry wheat ale made by Alaskan Brewing Company, honestly not a bad beer, I was a tad skeptical at first but am thinking it could go fairly well with some plain cheesecake, but Iím thinking I would be pretty full given the wheat part of it could be toned back a bit.

August 16th, 2012 - Itís hard to find fault with a bottle of beer so sweetly adorned with a curious, dog-like bear, seemingly swimming through a berry patch in search of the sweet fruits and morsels. Isnít that an analogy for us beer drinkers? Doeful eyed, traveling from brewery to brewery, ending up cradling a bottle of good beer on our backs as we attept to lick the last blessed drops from an especially toothsome serving? And so with the actual tasting, I was in a good mood, and ready to take in the sweeter side of Alaska, and one that wasnít baked or lit on fire. The color is a cross between red and orange, though more orange than red, with a few pinkish hues thrown in to give this brew a bit of a blush. From this chubby cheek colored beer comes a light, sweet raspberry smell, which is light, but not too light, with a spritzy effervescence and just a hint of ripe watermelon. Upon a taste, the first thing I notice is a cascading carbonation. Itís huge and roiling, and clouds what I assume are soft and quiet fruity notes submerged somewhere in the churning mouthfeel of the beer. This light, bubbly water flavor lasts to the mid-tastem where shadows of sweet, overripe raspberries begin to appear, though their shape s hazy. This brew might benefit from a bit of warmth, and with a little time for the carbonation to settle, but it didnít last that long. As it is, this is not the best Alaskan Brewery brew out there.
