COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Raspberry Wheat is an American-style Wheat Ale that highlights the bright flavors and inviting aroma of more than 3,000 pounds of real raspberries added during fermentation. Years of local demand through Alaskan’s Rough Draft program of draft-only releases and a Silver medal from the 2008 Great American Beer Festival make Alaskan Raspberry Wheat the perfect brew to launch the Alaskan Pilot Series.

Pours a reddish-orange color with small head, that dissipates quickly. Strong aroma of raspberries and wheat. Flavor is dominated by the raspberries, with a bitter wheat undercurrent. Not particularly sweet, but an interesting combination of flavors. Mouthfeel a bit on the thin side. Glad I gave it a try, though I’m not sure I’d want another.

August 16th, 2012 - It’s hard to find fault with a bottle of beer so sweetly adorned with a curious, dog-like bear, seemingly swimming through a berry patch in search of the sweet fruits and morsels. Isn’t that an analogy for us beer drinkers? Doeful eyed, traveling from brewery to brewery, ending up cradling a bottle of good beer on our backs as we attept to lick the last blessed drops from an especially toothsome serving? And so with the actual tasting, I was in a good mood, and ready to take in the sweeter side of Alaska, and one that wasn’t baked or lit on fire. The color is a cross between red and orange, though more orange than red, with a few pinkish hues thrown in to give this brew a bit of a blush. From this chubby cheek colored beer comes a light, sweet raspberry smell, which is light, but not too light, with a spritzy effervescence and just a hint of ripe watermelon. Upon a taste, the first thing I notice is a cascading carbonation. It’s huge and roiling, and clouds what I assume are soft and quiet fruity notes submerged somewhere in the churning mouthfeel of the beer. This light, bubbly water flavor lasts to the mid-tastem where shadows of sweet, overripe raspberries begin to appear, though their shape s hazy. This brew might benefit from a bit of warmth, and with a little time for the carbonation to settle, but it didn’t last that long. As it is, this is not the best Alaskan Brewery brew out there.

Summer 2010. This beer is unimpressive. I will not purchase again. Fail. Pours a ruby red beer with little head. Sour nose with sweet hints of raspberries. Sour flavor. Lite body. Medium carb. Finishes okay. At $3 out of discount bin, not a bad hit. Probably better fresh or a couple years out. Serving type: bottle 02-21-2011

Pours a golden reddish tinted color with a large puffy head. Notes of metal, raspberry candies, wheat, and bread. Overly carbonated mouthfeel.

Bottle from Total Wine Glendale. Pours turgid ruby with a thin khaki head. Massive cloying raspberry on the nose. Lots of syrup on the tongue. Finish lingers. Not by favorite from these guys.

On tap at Luckys. Pours a cloudy copper ruby with medium off white head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is raspberry and wheat. Thin mouthfeel with sweet fruit and raspberry flavor. Decent.
