Imperial Doppelbock Ale Aged On Oak Chips
Alaskan Troppelbock is a tawny, copper-colored ale with thick, ivory lacing. Toasty, biscuit, and caramel malt notes dominate the aroma but do not overwhelm the delicate undertones of freshly hewn oak and pecan pie-like nuttiness. The flavor is similarly complex; a huge, toasted malt profile melds with subtle fig, dark fruit, milk chocolate, and vanilla notes. The mouthfeel is warming, soft, and full, with moderately low carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

This initially is quite malty, but after the shock change from the IPA I had before it it’s quite good. The flavor is sweet but not overly so, with a good chewy body and nice toffee notes. Actually quite excellent. The alcohol is very well hidden. Fantastic even on a 100+ degree day in Vegas.

This is what a triple should be! It bit on the sour side, which is nice. Good lacing. The head is a bit weak. Beautiful dark amber color. Hint of caramel. A bit of a woodsy, mossy aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Caramel abounds in the nose and palate. Thick mouth feel, slightly sweet, delicious. Must pick up more.

Bottle: Dark copper in color with a little more than a finger of creamy beige head. Very inviting aroma… vanilla, oak, caramel, and bananas. I love it! The flavor is rich and sweet, very dessert like. Coconut, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, and caramel. Very light oak, but its there as it warms. A faint pitted fruit presence. Decadent. This is a supreme dessert beer. Brings back memories of Wii golf at the Forrester with Jordan and Wade… that was the Baltic Porter, but much of the same flavor profile here. At $9/bomber I nearly skipped this over… glad I gave in and tried it. A great experience! I can chalk this up as one of the best beers I’ve had in 3-4 years. Wow.

Bottle at a tasting. Aroma: Heavy molasses and caramel. Slight roasted malt. Nutty. Appearance: Clear dark amber body, spare head. Taste: Good god this is the closest thing I’ve had to a tawny port that is not tawny port. De-licious. DELICIOUS. I want to be baptized in this stuff. Palate: Sticky, kind of boozy. Definite warmer. Long finish, kind of sticky. Overall: Good golly miss molly I did not expect that. What a fantastic, fantastic beer.

Growler pour. Skiff of head disappears immediately, leaving beer the color of dark cider. Aromas of spice (rosewood), ripe sweet apple, plum, caramel. Flavors of ripe apple, oak, raisins, bourbon, faint bitter finish. A bit sweet over all, but this beer reminds me a lot of shiraz. Palate is smooth, tiny sharp bubbles a nice counterpoint to the viscosity. This beer is every bit as good as I remember it was from the bottle I didn’t rate. Wish they’d make this regularly, but it might be a one off.

Wow. Nice high quality ale. Deep coppery colour with small beige head. Rich fruity aroma complex taste of malts And dried fruits high alcohol content is just detectable but not intrusively a fine beer. Had this in a Todd English pub where idiots were drinking pints of bud light in a 7 second challenge. The fools.

First foray into this style. I'm not certain that the brewers succeeded in their mission. Syrupy sweet, with quite strong toffee notes. Some woodiness from the aging, but not enough to match the sweetness. B- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice vanilla oak aromas with some caramel and biscuit. Pours a nice copper with nice creamy head. Nice taste of tannins creamy full bodied smooth with some sweetness and balanced bitterness and tannic levels. Nice hidden 10% tasty stuff not what I envisioned for a Dopplebock but good

Bomber poured a clkear reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, brown sugar, oak, banana, vanilla and light spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of oak, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla and light fruittiness with a smooth lingering oak finish.
