COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

[Bottle] 2010 version. Pours a very dark brown color with a thick cap of beige head. Charred malts, smoke, bacon and earth in the nose. The taste is very smoky and rich. Chargrilled meats, ash, dark chocolate, light espresso and some wood in the taste. Full mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Oily and rich finish. Lingering strong smoke notes. Very tasty!

650ml bottle, 2009. Aroma is nothing but smoke!! Sausages, soy and smokey bacon. Flavor is a mix of big smoke and loads of piney hops. The pine just covers your palate and the finish. Long dry bitter finish. Pretty nice stuff!!

2008 version from a 22oz bottle into my Orval glass. The beer pours dark black with a disappointing light tan head. It only rises about half a finger and is gone right, poor lacing. The aroma is on the lighter side, giving off a lot of malts, very sweet on the front with chocolate and it finishes with a smooth smokiness with a hint of pork. The taste is actually pretty simple and boring. Its not overly flavorful, starts off with some minor coffee notes and finishes with some bitter smokiness. This either needs to be sweeter or have more smoke, but right now just not enough of anything. I was really looking forward to this and sadly came away pretty disappointed.

Alaskan Smoked Porter. Pours out a black color with about a half inch light brown head with a creamy consistency. It has a very smoky aroma basically having the woody smoke source right under you. The flavor is very smoky as well and slightly fishy. It also has the bitter bite from the hops. Overall it has a huge flavor not to be underestimated. The light mouthfeel makes the porter seem almost creamy and the medium body carries the flavors and aroma very well.

2008 Bottle pulled from the cellar sampled 3-29-2009. Pours a dark brown with faint reddish highlights on the extreme edges. Thinnish tan head dissipates almost instantly. Smells like a forest fire. Charred wood and burnt plastics meld with some chocolate and roast. Taste is chocolate and roast with that smoked burnt wood character. Carbonation is ample almost prickly, body is medium, mouthfeel is creamy smooth. Great smoked porter. Lots of smoked/burnt character. This is not something I’d drink everyday, but it’s a nice sipper.

2007 bottle. Poured into a snifter. ASP is onyx in color with a rich tan head. Low retention rate, with some mild lacing. Very sweet aromas. Breakfast cereal malts, and a lot of smoky characteristics. The smokiness is definitely on. Some bacon and smoked salmon flavors, tied together with some great roasted malts. Perfect carbonation level. Nice rich mouthfeel, but not heavy at all. A very nice change for me, but I think its a little too hyped from the beer community. Definitely worth a try but I didn’t find it to be amazing.

Bottle. Pours pitch black with smallish tan coloured head. Great aromas of roasted malt and smkoed bacon. Really good. Flavours show plenty of roasted malt bitterness and a little sweet dark coffee. Mouthfeel is slightly on the thin side, but this is a very good beer.

Bomber from grub.
Appearance : Pours pitch black with a small head.
Aroma : Dark fruits with light smoke and light hops. Nice roasted malt. Nice notes of raisins. Very rich.
Taste : Light smoke with red dry fruits and some raisins. Finish has light notes of smoke with red fruits and light hops. Nice notes of dark chocolate.
Overall : Interesting stuff. Well balanced. Smoke could be a bit more present. Nice fruits on nose and taste. Well done, nicely balanced but nothing outstanding.

2004 Bomber. Pours opaque black, brown at the edges. 1-finger pale tan head, spotty lacing. Nose is big and smoky, as one would expect - nice cherrywood/beechwood smoke, some chocolate, big beef jerky notes, some creosote/sooty notes, also pencil shavings. Flavours of smoke, ham rind, love the smoke on this one. Perfect balance, insanely long finish. Lovely stuff.
