The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Poured from a 2011 bottle into an Alaskan Brewery Pint glass. Aroma is chocolate ... and a very slight smokiness. Appearance is brown black like old motor oil. Had a three finger tan head that hung around for quite a bit. Taste is dark chocolate and smoke. The smoke is perfectly balanced with the chocolate. Palate is smooth with just the right carbonation. Overall an excellent beer that aged well. If you can get your hands on a bottle give it a try. Cheers!

Poured from a 2011 bomber into an Alaskan Brewery Pilot Series Pint glass like darkest of brown black. Aroma is smoked malts. Flavor is like chocolate dipped bacon with touch of smoke. Finish makes me think of coca cola. Smooth beyond words. Love this brew. Had 06, 11, 12, 13 with the exception of 06 never disappointed.

2008 model @ DØE Århus South Smokebber tasting: 6 years old Fine beer, I was hoping a little more smoke, because after 5 years should be in the foreground according to the brewery.

The archetypical smoked porter and probably the best known beer in the state of Alaska, this classic shows a mousse-like, yellowish white head on an opaque chestnut brown colour, bordering on black, but still transparent. Strongly smoked aroma of charcoal, bacon and smoked herring, accompanied by lots of other malty notes (dark chocolate, coffee) and impressions of dried plums, sage, tobacco, liquorice and soy sauce; taste profile is concentrated around a mouth-filling toasted bitterness (coffee), caramelly malts, dried fruit and a retronasal smokiness that contrasts nicely with the toasted bitter, making this an exciting experience; finishes utterly dry, with the typical rich and pine-like hop bitterness of many American micro brews, also a slight candi stickiness, long and complex. Thanks to the bottle slowly maturing in a darkened corner of my cellar, I’ll be able to re-rate this as an aged beer, as it is said to have ample ageing potential.

660ml bottle (2013). Pitch black color. Tiny to almost no head. Sweet, malty, raisins, faint smoke in aroma. Smoked, bit of milky, faint rubber and bit ashy taste. Long lasting roast in aftertaste. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Nice one!
