The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Darkest brown, almost black. Rocky light-brown head. Intense aromas of smoked ham, coffee, iodine, seaweed, squid ink (it’s a very marine porter). Taste is salty, savoury and bitter. Soft and creamy. Long finish.

Pitch black beer with a generous foamy dark head and lots of bubbles. Smell is lots of smoke and bbq meat, some leather, subtle hints of hop, bit of sharp lemon. Bit of roasted nuts. Salty, with some creamy chocolate. Taste is creamy oily watery bitterness, beautifully balanced. Smoke and meat are a little bit less present with a bit more chocolate and some coffee. Nice fizz, touch of ash, resin. Full mouthfeel and full finish with a light astringence.

Between a porter and a smoked beer, I can find better specimens, which are not as herbal as this one. Interesting, but the heavy herbal tones on the flavour put me off.

2013 Btl pours deep dark opaque brown color, huge fluffy tan head that disappears quickly leaving no lace. Aromas of, burnt wood, charcoal, earth and the inside of a meat smoker. Tastes of campfire smoke, dark chocolate, sweet caramel and earth. Medium body, creamy, soft mouthfeel, a tad under carbonated , and a finish that puts a twang on the tip of your tongue. The smoke stays in your mouth long after the beer is gone! This is my first smoked beer. I felt the intense smokiness was a little overwhelming. I thought a year of aging would mellow the flavors out a bit but they still were pretty bold. It was good but not great.

650ml bottle of 2012 vintage. Black with tall but fairly quickly disappearing beige-brown head leaving some lacing. Smoky, peaty aroma with some tar, liqorice and hints of coffee and chocolate in the background. Taste is dominated by smoke, peat and roasted malts and grains but also has some bitter coffee and chocolate and hints of tar. Very nice smoke character and a good porter, just a little too thin on the mouthfeel, maybe drinking fresher or aging longer would’ve fixed that though.
