Dark brown with light brown edges. Sparse beige head. Aroma intensity 4/5. Toast, chocolate, malt, tomato and blackcurrant in the nose. The smoke really comes in the taste, alongside with oregano. Medium sweet. Bitter finish. Thin texture. Medium to full body

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 2012 shared thanks to Mrk. Black with small light brown head. Lots of smoke, BBQ, ash, espresso, cocoa beans, dark chocolate, dried chilies but without the burn, earthy, dried leaves. Light sweet and under medium bitter. Medium bodied with slick feel. Very nice.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark-brown, tar like color with a beige head. Interesting smell of smoked salmon and roast. Light, easy-to-drink beer with a intense smokey & coffee-chocolate aroma and a stout note. Interesting beer indeed, would try it again, but its price is quite high :D

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2015 vintage. Pours dark as a starless night. Normal head volume, outstanding lacing and world class retention.
Nearly world class nose of rich smoked malt that delivers a nice campfire bacon aroma. Had it been a bit more intense, it would have achieved world class status. Underneath roll light roast, chocolate and hop notes.
Heavy medium body with a smooth and somewhat creamy texture. World class carbonation that provides a burst in the middle and a finely bubbled prickly finish. The body / carbonation ratio is perfect and really allows the flavor to open up.
The flavor profile is quite outstanding. Surprisingly, the smoked malt delivers a subdued campfire bacon flavor, not the delicious intensity of Schlenkerla. In other words, this one is balanced better. This balance, or lack of smoke intensity, allows the other flavors to shine. Light bitter bakers chocolate, hints of molasses and a light hop spiciness appear from the middle on. Bitterness is light and has both a hop and roast character. As middle bitterness begins to fade, sweetness (caramel, molasses) maximizes and smoked malt comes to the forefront. It delivers a slight campfire bacon flavor but is mostly oak smoke. The finish is slow sweet fade that leaves a lingering oak smoke and just a hint of dryness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled in 2012, drank 3,5 year after that.. Almost black colour with big beige head. Moderate aroma of dark malts, some bread, light smoke and chocolate. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Soft carbonation. Medium to full body. Decent stuff, but in my opinion it’s overrated. I’ve expected much more.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Huge smoke made me break out a few scotches for comparison. This porter has more smokiness than Ballantine’s Finest but not as much as an Ardbeg 10-year-old. What it has that the scotches don’t is hints of chocolate in the aroma. The body was a letdown--much thinner than expected--and the taste is bland and, now on the finish, overwhelmed with smoke. Given that the bottle’s label encourages aging and I opened it just six months after bottling, perhaps getting another and letting it sit a bit would be a good idea and a more fair test.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Vintage 2012. Pours beautiful black beer with light brown head. Aroma is a bit metallic, but mostly roasted malt and wonderful smoke. Taste is roasted malt, hoppy grassy and.... smoke! A wonderful balanced smoked porter, I love it.
