Tasted just like a porter but smoked w/ some sweetness in there. Overall I thought it was bit smoky. I have one being aged, we’ll see. garcia2a (6), Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 3, 2008 This is one of my favorite beers and I treated myself to a 1999 vintage that I had hidden away. The pour is a deep ruby brown with a nice 1" head. Smoke, cocoa and caramel on the nose lead to a great smoke flavor. Not a heavy beer for me, but just tasty!! marcus (1918), Sacramento, California, USA

The flavor is robust, filled with roasted malt, coffee and toffee. There is a lingering bitterness at the finish. Overall, a very tasty treat. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is smoke, roast, bitter coffee and chocolate. Flavor is bitter chocolate, heavy smoked meat, and light roasty character to it. Went well with the meal I had - pasta with melted smoked mozz. Average lacing, slightly under carbonated. Smells of smokey malts, sweet almonds, liquorish. First sip is smooth, smokey, malty, followed by pleasant bitterness. As is warms, the complexity increases with tobacco, coffee, caramel, and chocolate slipping through the smokey malt. Not over smoked, not under smoked, this one gets it right. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Aroma is a smoky chocolate scent. Color is black with mellow carbonation and a small tight tan head. Taste is super smoky. Starts with a lighter medium body that goes down smooth with a fizzy feel. Finish comes in with a strong smokiness then a roasted almost burnt flavor end with a slight bitterness starting. In the after taste the roasted goes sweet for just a moment and then leaves you with a bitterness that lingers for a while. Its not bad but it is a bit too smoky and the body is a touch light. I knew it was going to be a smoked beer, but Damn! Aroma is a nice charcol smokey BBQ. The taste is alllllllllll smoke and nothing else. This beer is just not made out for me. I see where they are going w/it, just let those who love smoked beers enjoy it. Highly rated to those who enjoy smoked beers. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA
