COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

2012 edition. Black as a sin. Beatiful brown head that leaves a lot of lacing. Nose: Roasted malt, vanilla, coffee, dried fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, ash, dark bread and smoked meat. Taste: Smoked meat, roasted malt, leather, dark chocolate, coffee, pine and licorice. Medium body with little carbonation. A great, complex brew. I just love it!

660ml bottle (2013). Pitch black color. Tiny to almost no head. Sweet, malty, raisins, faint smoke in aroma. Smoked, bit of milky, faint rubber and bit ashy taste. Long lasting roast in aftertaste. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Nice one!

Dark brown, clear, tan head. Biscuit, cocoa, fairly pronounced but pleasant smoke, Flavor: bready malt, biscuit, baker’s chocolate, smokey and grainy malt, finishes fairly dry. Well made. Smokiness is pronounced in this year-old bottle, but its not over the top, and works well with underlying malt character.

Bouteille (2012). Saveur Bière. Belle robe noire, mousse beige gourmande. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

650 ml bottle. Pours dark brown with two fingers of brown, good lasting head. Aroma is smoke, bonfire, ham, chocolate, grain coffee and plum. Nice roastiness with medium bitterness creates good finish. Low carbonation. Nice, velvety mouthfeel. Medium body. Low alcohol note with pleasant warming. Balanced, very good beer.

2011 vintage, nearly 4 years old. I’ve been drinking this beer a long time, but have never rated it. This vintage is one of the best in awhile, though. Creamy, generous graham cracker colored head over what appears to be opaque black body, but a bright light behind reveals is deep, clear chestnut brown. Head fades sky leaving some lacing. Aroma is smoke, smoke, and dried cherries, with an undercurrent of black malt. The smoke isn’t sharp, though, but mellowed, like the inside of an old cabin. Taste is fire roasted apple and black malt, faint lemon zest, lightly spicy, with that undercurrent of smoke. Finish is slight tart and bitter. Body is thinner than I remember, but middle of the road for a non-imperial porter. Fine, subdued carbonation. Still one of my favorite porters, and the one all others are measured against, this vintage stands as my favorite year.
