COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Tasted on 1/6/13 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle purchased quite some time ago at Sun Devil. Pours opaque, nearly black dark brown with a very thick tan head that slowly recedes to messy, thick lace. The nose is more smoke than anything else, with plenty of dark chocolate and coffee malt to back everything up. The flavor is the same, with the smoke really dominant up front, with tons of roasted malt and a touch of added vanilla on the back of the palate. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long smoked, bitter roasted, and light touch of vanilla sweet finish. This beer is holding up very well, and having had it several times in the past, it is still an accurate reflection of what this beer is and can be.

Sampled from a bottle, this beer had a dark brown-black pour and gave a tan, chocolate shake one to two finger head of bubbles that receded to a cover and ring, it left nice spots and fingers of lacing on the glass, it had aromas of a wood fire smoke, toasted malt and some roasted malt, coffee, a touch of oily smoke, some malt and brown sugar sweetness in the background, the flavor was wood fire and oily smoke, toasted malt and a little roasted malt, black coffee, faint caramel and chocolate, there was a little malt and/or hop bitterness after the finish, the mouth feel was light medium and creamy on the lips, and it had average carbonation, a very smokey porter, smoke was out front on the nose and flavor, a nice blend of a smoke drink.

2012 edition, 65cl shared bottle @ home from Mitra. Body is dark brown, Head is small, fizzy, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Nose is smoked ham, Aroma is smoke, chocolate, mild coffee, ash. Taste is medium to heavy roasty bitter. Finish is long lasting, moderated smokey roasty bitter. Full body, slightly sticky texture, soft carbonation. Not bad, but too much hype.

2013-Pours the color of black with a small tannish head. It definitely has a smoke aroma but there is something more, some kind of sweetness that I cant put my finger on. I am kind of afraid that the taste will follow the nose, I can’t see how it can’t. I’m scared. The aroma slaps me in the face when I go to drink it. Scareder. Taste does follow the nose but its not bad, yet. Maybe a Smokey caramel/chocolate flavor that seems to get easier to drink the more you drink(that’s a good thing with anything you drink). Overall a unique flavored beer that is really good but I don’t know if its what I crave as a beer, but it is good. Hard for me to rate.

rich and intensely flavored" is right...for better or worse. Most people love or hate this beer. the smokiness is anything but subtle. A good dose in the nose. While in the mouth, the big full bodied porter qualities get to come out and play, but the finish is almost all smoke...and is there a hint of fishiness in that finish? recommended. definitely unique. stones is a touch thinner, but easier to drink. i like this beer (my wife hates it) but i don’t think i’d want to polish off a 22 by myself."
