4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012 vintage, little over 1 year old. Pours black, small beige head, mostly lasting. Quite pronounced aroma. Rich Campfire, sausagey, smoked and sweet maltiness, just a bit of chocolate. Flavor follows, just not quite as rich. Medium body, soft and sorta creamy. Finish is a long pleasant lightly smoky roastiness with some chocolate. Superbly well-made beer.

2012 vintage. just over a year over.
very smokey. smells like sausage, campfire.
Taste is similar. Tastes like eating smoked sausage while smelling your sweatshirt the morning after a campfire.
Nice, smooth finish.

bottle from Bierzwerg, vintage 2012. Deep black, large beige head. Smoky nose. Full-bodied, dark, very dark malts, coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, and a touch of smoke. Not as smoky as many Franconian smoked beers, but detectable.

Gedronken @ aaclubavond. Donker/robijn rood helder bier met creme kleurige minimale kraag. Atoma is rokerig, porter en kersen. Smaak is koffie, rokerig. Hoofdtoon is zuur. Weinig co2 met redelijke body.

Smoked beer may be an acquired taste but once you get passed the first few sips it is a singular kind of tasty. Alaskan Smoked Porter is a great example of the style. Just enough smoke to support the chocolate and coffee notes without overpowering them. Rich and balanced flavor and beautiful to look at. It’s the beer equivalent of a big old leather easy chair. A terrific beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark brown pour with a thin tan head, smokey aroma, smoke taste along with roasted malts a hint of leather, some sweetness and hop bitterness manages to come through the smoke. Excellent stuff.
