After 4+ years on this site I finally got my hands on this beer, but only to find dissapointment. It was a slightly dissapointing beer, but more then that I have come to the conclussion that me and smoked just dont work together. Poured a really nice looking black with good sized foamy off white head. Nose of slight smoke, but more dominated by the roasty malts and slight chocolate. But the flavor did seem more smoke oriented. It did get a bit better as it warmed, but not nearly enough to get a passing grade from me.

Bomber. I know I’m against the grain here.This stuff was hard to swallow, I think I poured half the bomber out. It certainly is smokey, but I tasted no chocolate. It was more like bacon grease and campfire. I can see that others really enjoy this and that’s cool, its not for me. I have another bottle I will likely give away.

Very dark brown to black color, brown head. Smoked salty pork scent, some alcohol. A little bit metallic when swirled. Light smoked taste with a burnt aftertaste. Medium high bitterness.

Clear dark reddish brown color, brown head. Smoke, malty, sausage scent. Metallic, smoke, salty, dry, grainy taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Dry coffee aftertaste.

22oz - Booming roasted notes with pervasive, appetizing smoke. Total lack of weight and mouthfeel.

(22oz Bottles. 01/2006) Smoke aromas. Dark, brown. Smoked flavors. Medium-full bodied. Young, this was just, well, heavily smoked.

This was a dissapointment for me. Beef jerky and liquid smoke aroma from a black body with a brown head. The palate is the best part--smooth and creamy. Coffee and some thin malt flavors up front with a a slight bitterness in the background. Nothing here that blew me away, and I’ve had other smoked brews that were better in my opinion.

definite BBQ aroma. pours dark brown with an espresso head. smoke flavors linger on top of the porter base. nice lacing left on the glass. not heavy at all.

A: The beer pours a dark brown color with some reddish hues and a short lived khaki head. S: Big time smokiness to the nose with an intense saltiness and woodiness. There’s a slightly meaty aroma to it, too. Some roasted malts and a hint of sweetness underneath, perhaps toffee. T: As expected, huge smokiness on the palate. Burnt wood and ash with plenty of roasted malt flavor to it as well. A slight chalkiness to the flavor and only a minimal toffee sweetness to the beer. M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: The smokiness didn’t work well with the other flavors here, it just takes over and really dries out the mouth.

Thanks thirdeye11 dude. Smells like trash, but tastes like bacon. I am not sure I have ever had anything from Alaskan that I like. But I’m new.

Aroma had a little bourbon in there, but lots of smoke. A little too overpowering. Very smokey taste. Very much like a campfire. Creamy mouth that was very satisfying. I had the 09 and the 11. The 09 was smoke in the mouth while the 11 was a little more balanced.
