COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

2011 Bottle: Pours a dark cola brown with a foamy coffee colored head. Aroma is faint notes of smoke and roasted malts and a touch of chlorine. The taste is salt and smoke with some bitterness and an almost ashtray finish. The aftertaste is cigarettes. The body is medium with a thin texture and no real carbonation to speak of. Overall I am really disappointed in this beer. I saw the 99 rating and went out of my way to trade for this bottle. I was expecting something much more balanced than this one note wonder. If you like the taste of smoke and ash and cigarettes, this beer would be right up your alley. For me, I’ll be looking elsewhere.

Ar: big roasty smokiness, ash, tar, Wood, Smoked meat, some dried fruit, chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Ap: black colour, medium beige head, lacing. F: smoke, ash, tar, coffee, roastiness, light fruitiness, rather soft bite and actually no say near as full bodied as expected. P: medium bodied, but considering the flavours the body needs to carry the experience is a bit thin and watery. T: quality brew, but considering the reputation I was a little bit disappointed.

30.05.2013, 0,65l bottle (2007) @ home: Big creamy longlasting cocoa colored head. Aroma is very rich, salty licorice, liquid smoke, coffee, cocoa, salty caramel, dark malts, dark berries. Taste is very mild, almost a little watery, dark malts, burnt caramel, cocoa, grass, raw licorice, a hint of smoke. Aroma is just awsome, taste has probably started to fade a lot for a while beeing only 6,5%. I think I’ll have to taste this one a little younger as well. Still, this is an awsome beer!

Pours pitch black with small tanned head. A lot of smoke in the aroma with notes of burned wood and roasted malt. The smokiness continues in the taste together with roasted notes, vanilla and some dark chocolate. Very enjoyable and easy to drink.

Big bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam, kindly provided by my mother-in-law and sharee at a local tasting. Pours black with a light brown film. Mellow smokey roasted nose. Mouth adds acidic and bitter flavors skillfully balanced and the smoke is well integrated and unintrusive. Medium to full bodied. Leaves the tongue dry.

This bottle was brought to me by sister-in-law for providing her co-worker with a bit of free legal advice. After my first experience with a smoked beer was pretty awful, I tried this brew with great trepidation. Imagine my delight at the complex flavors presented by this beer. The smell of smoke and malts blends well and reminds me of camping trips with my dad and grandfather. Pours nearly black with a solid tan head. Flavor is smoked with just little bit of bitterness and malt. Like this beer and will try again. Bottle - Gift from Sister-In-Law
