COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine.

Woodsy first taste. Big Alaskan Brewery Fan. Hits the sides of my tongue with a burst of flavors. Coffee, Bread and chocolate hints make me like this beer and Colorado for my local liquor store to have it. I do taste a cough drop component but again faint. I will definitely stock this one in my cellar.

It’s quite dark in here so I dont which color this beer has. It looks great. I like the smell. Smokey and some fruity tones. The taste is great too. Burnt and roasty. The palate fits in great with this one.

Bottle from bierzwerg.de. Almost black colored beer with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, smoke. Taste, initially roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, than smoked ham, sausages arrives. Smokey finish. Enjoyable beer.

65cl Bottle @ home, bottled in 2012. I’ve just poured this clear, dark brown liquid, with ruby reflexes in the light and a thick creamy mocha-coloured head. Light smokey aroma, espresso coffee, ash, some dark honey sweetness coming through as it warms up. Super silky in the mouth, full, smokey taste, not much of the sweetness in the aroma left, but still strikingly balanced, not as aggressive as many german rauchbiers are. Leaves a light but lasting coffee impression in the mouth. Very nice, I’d really like to try it along with some food to pair with.

650 ml bottle, 2012 vintage, kindly shared by abemorsten. Black colour, moderate tan head. Lovely and balanced aroma between the smoked and roast malts. Roasty and smokey flavour too, but here the notes of "smoked sausage" come through a bit too strong for my taste.

Vintage 2004 shared by AZ crew. Glad they aged this as its still hugely smokey and i’d imagine any harsher would be borderline unpleasant tasting. pours jet black with one finger head. nose of delicious frying pan of bacon. Tastes of super amounts of smoky bacon, some peat straight from islay, maple syrup, chocolate, and woody. Kinda beats you over the head in flavor but thats what I need now and again

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 Bottle, 2009 vintage. Pours a near-black deep dark brown body with a large caramel-hued creamy head which fades quickly. Nose is smoke, tar, leather, tobacco, deep malty tones and hints of dark chocolate and licorice in a very delicate harmony. Incredibly pleasant. Taste is mellow dark malts up front, then leather which turns into tar and smoke, dark chocolate, licorice and burnt toast in the finish. Sweet, smokey aftertaste with beautifully contrasting burnt sugar and caramel tones. Full body, rich and creamy, with a medium carbonation serving just perfect to propel the flavors and aroma. This is like a symphony in my mouth, and one of the few American top beers that have actually surpassed my expectations lately. A great beer, worthy of its high rating.

2004 Vintage. Pours dark brown/black in color with strong smokey aroma. Tastes much of the same with hints of roasted malt. Smoke was a little to overpowering for me.

Bottle at The Anderson, Fortrose. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is roasty, liquorice, smoke, bacon frazzles, Dandelion & Burdock and treacle. The taste is roasted malt, liquorice, smoke, meatiness, bacon frazzles, moderate bitterness, earth and touch of blackcurrant jam with a very dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Decent, but doesn’t quite meet expectations.

Aroma of smoked cherry wood. Not that complex but a nice flavour. Good carbonation. Soft and silky. Taste is quite smoky. In the background I find some chocolate. Not that complex.
