Bottle. The pour was a very dark murky brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) frothy light brown head that dissipated slowly into just a few puddles and a ring of residue, leaving behind some really good sheets of lace.
The aroma was right of front with a strong smoke odor and a moderate burnt dark bread malt, a light resin hop and a meaty yeast. It also had decently strong notes of dark chocolate, a dark roasted coffee and a hint of wood.
The taste was smoky and mildly sweet with a hint of chocolate at first and then became moderately bitter and quite roasty with a nice dose of coffee and had a pronounced smoky finish. The flavor lasted a really long time after the swallow, being mostly of chocolate and coffee but having a strong smoky ending.
Mouthfeel was right between medium and full in body with the texture being nice and creamy yet just a little dry and having a mild carbonation.
Overall an impressive smoked beer that had a ton of flavor with a very nice blending of the smoke, so it did not become too overpowering on the taste buds.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bomber into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a super dark brown, bordering on black color with a nice billowy tan colored head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a god sum of foamy and stringy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is rather strong of a sweeter aroma with lots of molasses and caramel mixed with a good showing of a brownie smell of a slightly burnt and roasty nature. Along with these aromas comes a nice smoky smell mixed with a little bit of a grainy and hay-like aroma. Overall, the aroma is dark, smoky, and sweet. It’s quite nice.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweet caramel and molasses taste as the nose would have suggested. Along with these sweeter tastes is a rather strong roasty flavor containing within a nice hit of grain and char. As the taste advances some of the sweeter tastes dwindle a bit all while more char and some rather smoky flavors come to the tongue. The smoke really comes on strong more toward the end, and with some hay, more roast and a loss of the sweeter tastes, one is left with a rather nice roasty and smoky porter flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a on the slightly thinner side for a porter with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side as well. The lower carbonation is great for the darker, smoky, and upfront sweet nature of the beer, allowing all the flavors to really coat the tongue. While said, a little thicker of a body would have accentuated these nice flavors even better, really allowing all the dark tastes to linger on the tongue. Overall, the feel was just OK.
Overall – This was a very flavorful and tasty smoked porter with a nice sweet start mixed with a good showing of smoke and char flavor later on. If only the body was a bit thicker it would have been totally spot one. A very good one to try if you have not yet had it. Quite tasty overall.

BOTTLE 65CL from Bov. 2013 vintage. Almost black, with clear red highlights and a small mocha head. It starts rather smoky with notes of smoked bacon Bamberg style, and even some smoked fish. After the smoke calms down, you get some simple chocolate topping. The taste is low to moderate black malt sweetness, the smoke leaves a spicy note, low to moderate spicy bitterness and some ashes in the finish. So, apart from the savoury smokiness, this is a good, Smooth, but simple porter.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

Draft. Tight lace. Aroma of smoky ham and cereal grains, maybe oats. Flavors of mocha, chewy something, with a bit of chalk and a faint hint of dried fruit. For most of the time the beer is on the palate it vacillates between sweet and smoky, back and forth. Tremendous.

Darkest brown, almost black. Rocky light-brown head.
Intense aromas of smoked ham, coffee, iodine, seaweed, squid ink (it’s a very marine porter).
Taste is salty, savoury and bitter. Soft and creamy. Long finish.

Pitch black beer with a generous foamy dark head and lots of bubbles.
Smell is lots of smoke and bbq meat, some leather, subtle hints of hop, bit of sharp lemon. Bit of roasted nuts. Salty, with some creamy chocolate.
Taste is creamy oily watery bitterness, beautifully balanced. Smoke and meat are a little bit less present with a bit more chocolate and some coffee. Nice fizz, touch of ash, resin. Full mouthfeel and full finish with a light astringence.

Between a porter and a smoked beer, I can find better specimens, which are not as herbal as this one. Interesting, but the heavy herbal tones on the flavour put me off.
