3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. The pour was a very dark murky brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) frothy light brown head that dissipated slowly into just a few puddles and a ring of residue, leaving behind some really good sheets of lace.
The aroma was right of front with a strong smoke odor and a moderate burnt dark bread malt, a light resin hop and a meaty yeast. It also had decently strong notes of dark chocolate, a dark roasted coffee and a hint of wood.
The taste was smoky and mildly sweet with a hint of chocolate at first and then became moderately bitter and quite roasty with a nice dose of coffee and had a pronounced smoky finish. The flavor lasted a really long time after the swallow, being mostly of chocolate and coffee but having a strong smoky ending.
Mouthfeel was right between medium and full in body with the texture being nice and creamy yet just a little dry and having a mild carbonation.
Overall an impressive smoked beer that had a ton of flavor with a very nice blending of the smoke, so it did not become too overpowering on the taste buds.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a dark color with a tan head with various sized bubbles with some lacing. Smell is a very strong, smoky campfire smell. The bottle is what attracted me to it when it claimed it was one of the best beers ever made. Taste is MINDBLOWINGLY good! If you’re a fan of expensive coffee, this may be the brew! Roasted coffee, roasted nuts and seeds, dark chocolate, a dash of dark fruits and a nice snap at the end. Most high quality beers have a feel of watered down motor oil going down and this most certainly does!
The only gripe is that it’ll set you back nearly 7$ for a single bottle, but it’s well worth it!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle poured at a tasting. 2012 vintage. I have been able to find a decently wide variety of vintages of this just hanging around market shelves, so I hope to play the vertical game on this one. Pours black, with a tan swirl fizz head. Huge smoked aroma, as expected. A ton of roasted malt, with the nice camp fire character throughout. Standout beer. Awesome.

Aroma is nice and baconny. Roasted chocolate notes, some coffee. Good aroma. Taste is nice and creamy with some bitterness. Carbonation is on the high side and body is medium. Together with the carbonation this takes away from the beer and makes is too light bodied for me.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2015 Vintage - Poured into pint glass.
This hearty winter seasonal is warm and inviting, & unique in flavor due to their use of alder wood.
A beautiful dark brown color, almost black.
Smells of good smoke.
The flavor is one of charred wood, roasty chocolate, & fruity highlights of cherry or plum as it warms. There’s a pleasant smoky aftertaste & finishing notes of black tea. It’s smokey but not terribly bitter as other attempts at rauchbiers outside of Germany can tend to be.
The mouthfeel creamy, beckoning you to take one more sip.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
2012 Vintage poured into a teku showing dark translucent brown with a finger of thick latte colored foam.
The nose is shows a good mix of moderately intense whisky, smoke, and steel tank.
The palate is medium bodied and very foamy. Flavors of very light smoke and some bourbon notes. Light smoky bitterness on the finish with a light smoked nuttiness. The finish returns back to the smoky bitterness. Overall, a very foamy and lightly flavored easy drinking porter. Flavor is lighter than what I wanted but that the body and foaminess combine together to make it very drinkable.
