Oatmeal Stout - sweetish. I would not buy this again - but I’d drink it again. Does that make sense? Anywho, not my first or second choice in Oatmeal Stout - but drinkable.

350 ml bottle from Bevmo. Black with fizzy tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Medium bodied palate. Milk chocolate taste with a semi-dry finish.

12oz bottle. Wonderful color. Pitch with tight ring of beige head. Sweet cocoa chocolate nose. Toasty and mild coffee aromas. Too cold...nice toasty caramel malt flavors. Sweet malts throughout. Mild bitterness in the middle but I mostly attribute this to the temperature. Dark chocolate and fudge. The finish has few hops, but instead a mild fruity cherry syrup note. Very nice sweet stout. The only hold up, is the tart bitter coffee note in the middle to finish. Nothing overt, just off-putting. The afore mentioned bitterness, it wasn’t the cold, it was the recipe. The vanilla sweet mixes decentky with the acidic coffee dark malts. Good not great.

Gorgeous black beer with a moderate light brown head, just what a stout should look like. Doesn’t leave much lacing and the head vanishes fast, consistent with the only moderate body. Sweet, chocolate, toasty malts, not much bitter coffee, espresso, or other flavors that would add complexity.

Bottle from Irishboy. Slainte! Pours a rich black with a nice frothy head of off-white. Aroma is almost straight cocoa; hints of roasted malt are evident as well. A sweet, sugary brown sugar cereal seems to be in the background. Flavor is a mediocre blend of chocolate, smoke, and peat. So-so mouthfeel. I’d drink it again, nonetheless.

Pours an opaque black with a medium-sized tan head. The aroma is very malty and sweet - smells like a cream stout. The flavor is full of chocolate and caramel. The taste is sweet across the whole tongue with what tastes like a touch of lactose. The mouthfeel is very velvety and smooth - almost oily - and creamy and mildly carbonated. Overall, much sweeter than I was expecting, but not bad.

Sampled in a blind tasting among Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast, Alaskan Stout, Dick’s Lava Rock Porter, and Coors Light. Bottle best before Sept 5, 2007. Pours quite black with minimal red hues and a small tan head. Lacing is spotty on the snifter after a swirl, and carbonation is reasonable. The nose has roast up front with minimal caramel, cola, and some decent hop presence. Nothing really distinct, but just enough to add bitterness. Ash and coffee are first noted in the mouth with heavy soy sauce and coating dark chocolate washing over my palate. It’s slightly syrupy with a toasted, oaty finish, I get a hints of brownies. The beer has a medium mouthfeel, is solid and sessionable. Nothing amazing, but something I would buy again to enjoy while I watched the game.
