UPDATED: AUG 14, 2005 Dark brown in color, opaque, good head formation. Roasted malt, charcoal aroma, fruit and grain. Medium to full palate, moderate roastiness, sweetness, pastey oats and a fruitiness that develops with warmth, mildly bitter sour in the finish.

Wonderful dark looking beer in the glass. Very good roastd coffee flavor with just a touch of chocolate covered raisins. Nice clean finish.

This was better than I expected, after having some of their other brews. Black with ruby hints, and a tan head. Very smooth, roasted coffee and chocolate flavors.

Dark dark brown, with a small head consistent with the style, slightly roasted aroma, starts bitter, then the roasted flavor and aroma pick up with hints of chocolate, low bitterness at the end.

Maybe it was my glass but the head totally died on me. It started out promising with beautiful dark brown foam sitting atop the a black body, but then see ya! It died to nothing. Had a chocolatey, creamy smell to it, kind of hard to describe, but it was very nice. Tasted sweet and coffee like with a nice hoppy presence around the tongue. Slight coffe aftertaste. Good beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 VENOM (941) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 25, 2002
Nearly opaque chestnut. Thin, foamy dark tan head. Steady carbonation. Aroma of black malts, coffee, fruity sourness and wisps of oatmeal. Light, bubbly nature. Initially sourish with cherry pit notes atop a burnt malt profile and caramel sweetness. Dryish with trace hints of oatmeal smoothness. Harsh edged and bitterly roasted and sweet. Mildly sticky. Body remains airy throughout. Finishes with a plum and coffee mixture. Weird, but interesting.

This is a great beer, agreed it is the best from alaskan. Especially after the last one I had was the Summer Ale (yuck). Wonderfull aftertaste, finishes thin. Great.

Real good. The best from Alaskan that I’ve had. Dark coloring. NO head at all. Smooth flavor. Odor and taste have a sweetnes to them.

This is a fantastic oatmeal stout--the best I can ever remember trying from the bottle. Its rating should certainly improve when I have had it on draught. Creamy coffee top with dark body emanating a deep coffee fragrance. The full coffee flavor predominates the body as well, which is rounded by a nice burnt maltiness. Mid-complexity with perfect palate composure. Perfectly balanced, this oatmeal stout retains its robustness from the first sip to the last.
