Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

9-13-07 bottle. Dry yeasty aroma. Okay flavor - but not much of it. Smells sweeter as it warms. Light bodied and easy to drink. A bit watery though.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color beer with an average size head with some medium retention. Aroma of grainy and somewhat unrefined grain is slightly bland. Taste is also dominated by some unrefined and grainy malt and some semi-sweetness. Body is slightly oily with a full body and some medium carbonation. Interesting take on the style but not something I would go for on a regular basis.

Only had this a few times while I was there but was not really drawn to it. A lot of people liked it though. Just has an odd flavor.

Bottle. Pours a clear straw color with a thin white head. Very mild malty-sweet aroma. Slightly corny taste profile with a crisp finish. The corniness is slightly off-putting and makes the brew taste heavy and unrefreshing.

12oz bottles. Label reminds me of the movie Shamu. Beer is not bad an excellent summer ale very refreshing and very smooth. I would take this over a Carona or any other piss lager that people enjoy in the sun.

Decent enough brew...starting with a cremy pour and rich head. The aroma is mild malt sweetness and touches of mild floral hoppiness. The flavor is pretty mild as well, but largely caramel sweetness (touches of bread dough) and a very light floral hopping. A tad thin-bodied but OK.

Thanks to Fordest for this- Dark yellow to light gold pour in a Kolsch glass. Big lasting white head, and a faint grassy, sweet malt smell. Was refreshing, sweet and nicely but mildly flavored of crisp malt. A bit watery especially in the finish, but still enough flavor to keep from being boring. This is a good Kolsch, but I’m starting to crave more flavorful beers as its cooling off.

My first Kolsch. Tastes pretty nondescript, but is crisp and refreshing. The best part about it is the cool little killer whale it has on the bottle, honestly.
