Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Poured a dull yellow-copper clouded body with a silky whitish head. Yeasty nose coupled with Bavarian maltiness. Bready, grainy, well hopped. Very much a kolsch. Sessionable as the day is long. Pairs well with spicy foods and/or hot sauces.

I can almost taste the glacier. Has a clear, fresh aroma and taste. It is a bit pale and the head is thin. But . . . it rests easy on the palate, brings balanced hops to the tongue while retaining a subtle clover-like sweetness. Overall fulfilling to drink.

draft. clear yellow gold with thin white head. slight sweet malt on the aroma. flavor is low levels of malt, tart citrus and bitter hop. the palate is quite thin without being overly watery. flavors run mild but are there if you’re looking for them. doesn’t have the crisp dry finish that i typically associate with kolsch. would make a reasonable session beer if macro drinkers are present but it does little justice to the style.

Bottle - Poured a straw-yellow n color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, flowery and malty with only a very small hint of hops. Flavor is also somewhat fruity and sweet with strong maltiness. Some hop bitterness. Somewhat sour in the aftertaste. Clean on the palate. Not bad... drinkable...

Too sweet and too linear. Not much complexity. Great if I was at a party on a beach but nothing I’d drink if I had a choice. Much too sweet and dirty for a kolsch.

Alaskan Summer Ale is a crystal-clear golden ale, highly sparkling with a white head that vanishes and leaves pretty good lacing. It has a grainy aroma that is fruity and grassy. It has a big, smooth body with a champagne texture. The finish is clean and slick. What a smooth taste! this is something you could get your dad to drink. It’s lightly bitter, with a simple grainy taste. There is a hint of fruit to it. Excellent session ale. It’s like if you took a macro, removed the adjuncts and added much more malted barley. Nice! A summer ale without gimmicks!

This was a dissapointment. There was little aroma but a good amount of flavor. So it was just so-so. I thought it would be better coming from Alaskan.
