DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jul 13, 2007 Clear golden yellow with a steadfast foamy white head. Sweet and floral aroma, flavours of pear, jasmine, with a crisp almost tart finish. Fantastic! GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Jul 13, 2007 Sacramento Sports and Brew Fest. While this suffers from the usual "light" ale curse, it is a few notches better due to the grassyness in the ale and the fact it has some character. An aroma of sweet malt, light grassy notes with a surprising touch of spices. Appearance was light yellow, crystal clear with a soft white head. Flavor was sweet malts, more light spices, grass with a super clean finish. Definitely a beer that you could toss quite a few back with. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jul 10, 2007 An enjoyable, refreshing beer. Light and crisp. Only a touch of wheat, but there is some there. Aroma has some corn and light yeast. TomDecapolis (3130), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 9, 2007 Pours a translucent golden with a smaller bubbly white head. Aroam of corn, grassy, some citrus and an overall crisp aroma. Flavor was clean and crisp. Decent hop bitterness with some citrus. rmussman (905), California, USA Jul 4, 2007 A very nice summer beer. Poured very nicely with a thin lacey head. It was very smooth and drinkable with very little aftertaste. Malty base was nice and overal falvor was strong but smooth. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Jul 1, 2007 Well, this beer was a gift from Bob (Skyview). My Surly glass was missing at the end of the grand tasting at RBSG, and was found at the end of the night (well, early in the morning). Bob brought the glass to my house, with 3 other surprises as well. This beer, as well as two Sprecher beers. What a generous guy!
This beer pours a clear gold color with a pure white head. Summer ale has scents of apricot, corn hops, and light hops. Easy drinking; flavor is light, some honey, sweet fruit, and a faint bitterness. Refreshing, and pretty good for the style. Retro42 (18), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Jul 1, 2007 Another from Skyview. Aroma was wheat and a slight sweet note. Light gold color with a whitehead. Smooth taste: yeast, honey, and a touch of citrus. Not bad, a worthwhile Kolsch. Flyer (118), Hartland, Wisconsin, USA Jun 30, 2007 Take this review with two grains of salt. First, I had it in a plastic cup on an airplane, which takes "improper glassware" to a new low. Second, I was feeling irritated because the flight attendant had said they carried Alaskan Amber, but when I asked for it I got this instead. (Can you do a place review for an airplane? Can you use a negative number to rate the knowledge of the waitstaff?)
The appearance and aroma were disturbingly reminiscent of a macro, with a vaguely corn-like quality and a macro-brand of light hoppiness (think Coors Light). The flavor was clean, with a minimum of malt and hop flavors -- I struggled to identify any ale-like qualities. Since I normally don’t drink Kolsches or Summer Ales or whatever you want to call this, I want to be fair, but this beer was all about refreshment and little more, and it wasn’t particularly refreshing. (A good tripel can be very refreshing, and so much more.) I can appreciate that craft brewers may have to expand into more drinkable styles to survivie, but this just goes too far for mre. Not recommended.
