Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Straw yellow with low carbonationAroma is mild skunky with spice. Starts thin and mild then a strong malt hits the top of the tounge and the skuny and spice that it smelled of comes through, finished tinny and sharp with lingering musk.

Pours pale gold w/ medium sized, creamy froth. Aroma is fresh and fruity. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are clean and fruity w/ candied citrus, spice, and slight biscuits. The finish is mellow malt. Overall: I mellow, fruity brew with no bittering.

Still getting my palate around this style. 6-pack picked up with Poperinge at Safeway in Bonners Ferry, our first US stop on the drive to Portland. Dark gold. Fizzy. Maintains a very thin head of tight bubbles. Raw grain and vegetable aroma. Flavour has a metallic edge. Chewy vegetable and hops. Just the slightest hint of orange. Some saltiness. Overall a bit rough.

Probably well done for the style... I just don’t care for the style; it’s way too subdued and bland. Like an ale trying to be a run of the mill pilsener.

From the bottle.

Pours a very clear light orange with small headd. The arom is a sour grassy, dusty hops and a bit of grain; the flaavor comes through with a solid warm malt, not dark or rich, just very clearly present if somewhat grainy. Mouthfeel is relatively full and butter/oily consider how easily it goes down.

Golden yellow in color, white head is gone quickly. Tastes of citrus, grain, and mild hops. Fairly plain in my opinion. Alaskan makes a better beer than this...

Not my favorite style, but a solid brew, abit on the grainy side, a little sweet, but very easy drinking, just not my favorite style, good for what it is.
