Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Clear golden, well carbonated. Sweet alcohol, sugar and spicy yeast aroma. Slightly syrupy, slightly yeasty/spicy flavor, moderately bitter finish. Pretty complex flavor for a kolsch, there’s some Belgian influence in there too. One of my favorite Alaskan Brewing beers.

22-oz. Bottle. Pours gold with lots of tiny fast rising bubbles and a small white foamy head. Malt (hay, straw) and sour yeast (sweat) with fruit hops, some faint banana notes. Yeast (dough, sweat) and malt (grain) creamy buttery flavor. Light bodied palate.

Even though this beer sat outside over 2 years and then in the fridge another 6 months, my brother really likes it.

The pour and aroma of this beer will fool even the most cunning connoiseur. Has a rich, spicy, hoppy aroma that will leave you salivating at the mouth. Bring it to the mouth and... yuck! What the hell is that. Tastes like a skunk dipped in one of Wonka’s everlasting gobstoppers. I’d say avoid this at all costs, but, well, you’ll manage to finish it because every time you bring it to your mouth your nose registers "mmm, delicious! maybe it’ll taste better this time around."

beer pours a very pretty (and bright) deep gold with an ok head that left little lace. nose is rather sweet and lightly toasty - like there is a lot of Munich malt in there. flavor is more of the same - sweet and malty, with perhaps a slightly nutty flavor. a handful of hops in the finish add some slight spiciness to the balance. beer is rather sweet for a summer beer, and seems to be a bit malty for a Kolsch - it drinks more like a Vienna.

Bottle: Translucent golden, pale, thin white fizzy head, spotty lacing, slight carbonation.   Pale malty aroma, somewhat like an old sweater.   Fairly sweet malt flavor, sweetenes even more as it finishes.   Very subtle apple or pear skin at the end.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Very clean and crisp finish.   Good summer thirst quencher.

Kinda disappointing. Very yellow coloring, with small head. Aroma is light, with spice profiles. Kinda mellow in the flavor department, with no distinguishing charasteristics. Still, Alaskan is quality, and you can’t disrespect that.

Bomber Not much of a head, and it really looked like corn juice. But, it was surprisingly refreshing. I mean, what do Alaskans know about summer anyway?? (kidding, of course) Aroma was a little light with honey, vanilla and some spices. It had a rather sharp flavor and a playful mouthfeel. More honey and spices in the flavor. Very drinkable.
