Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Reviewed 6/8/2009 (Bottle): Pours a light golden colored body, with nearly no head, whitish in color. Malty aroma, some freshness. Enticing. Malty nutty taste, refreshing. Effervescent. Not skunky tasting. Pretty good tasting. A little heavier than a typical summer beer.

(bottle) pale yellow colour, slight malty aroma, not much flavour to speak of; not offensive in any way but utterly uninteresting

Bottle. Pours a bright golden color with a thin white head. Aroma isn’t bad... fruity with a hint of grain. Flavor is weak: fizzy and grainy. A lot like a BMC lager. I’ll give it refreshing; but not much else.

A pretty simple beer, enjoyable enough and pretty to style. Pours a nice blonde with a good head. The aroma is nice grainy and somewhat metallic. The flavor has a bright maltiness with a little honey well balanced by a plesant noble hoppiness.

Pours a medium gold with just a little lacing forming. Looks and smells very lager-like, disappointingly. I mean very weak, barely-beerlike aroma. Flavor is slightly more robust, though not by much. I barely get any malt or hop flavors. Just the slightest hint of generic fruit. Palate is sprtizy, though watery. You know what? This shit is bunk. This would make a pretty decent lager. Calling it "ale" is simply false advertising. I’m very surprised and disappointed. I mean, I’m not trying to be an asshole or anything, but I just lost a lot of respect for Alaskan, considering what they’re capable of in the barleywine arena. Overall, just fair.
