Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Sour smell, wheaty, malty flavor and an unattractive pour. Very grainy mouthfeel, almost some grit to it. Just overall not very good.

Kind of threw me off that a brewery would make a "summer beer" that wasn’t a wheat style, rather a German Kolsch, but they crafted a pretty tasty beer here. I drank it out of the bottle, which I’m sure shaped what I was tasting a little bit, but oh well. Faint aroma of sawdust and sweet/sour mashed grain. Crisp bite on the palate. Refreshing, yet heavier than I may have hoped.

[1637-20080830] 355mL bottle. Grains aroma. Clear, light brown orange body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Grainy light malt flavour. Light-medium body. Nice to try.

Pours light amber with an ample head, faint yeasty aroma, flavor is of lightly roasted malt with the hops coming through in the finish, very nicely balanced, very enjoyable light beer with good mouthfeel, nicely done, the perfect summer quencher

2008-09-05?. Had a few of these over the length of our cruise but didn’t quite get to writing down notes until now. Golden yellow body with a small quick head. Pleasant light bitterness throughout, light floral touches to it, pale malt with toasty malt touches. (6+) Mild aroma, toasty malt notes. (6+) Ok but I prefer the fuller flavoured Amber. Bottle, Diamond Princess

This is a nice, pleasant, light, refreshing, but tasty beer. It’s gold with a smallish white head shrinking to a ring and only a weak hint of lace. The aroma is grain, grass, fruit, applies, very nice. The taste is crisp, dryish, with grain like a good lager, apples, hints of apple peel and with a light zestiness.
