Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Minimal/moderate, white, diminishing head above yellow/orange/golden apple juice colored stuff. Aroma of Farina, sweet tea, apple/citrus/pear is pleasant. Flavor follows suit, trailed by slight, crisp acid tartness. Lighter body and moderately carbonated adds to the experience. My favorite session beer of Summer 03. Maybe too sweet for the style, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Love the label, too.

Clear brassy golden body with a loose, sudsy white head. Aroma of fresh malt, warm honey, melon, and light floral notes. Nice full flavor for a kölsch with fresh pleasing maltiness, moderate sweet notes, light butter, low bitterness, and low acidity. This is a good, malty kölsch.

Well it was 45 minutes between pour and the time the site actually responded and I didn’t write the notes down so this is pretty much from memory courtesy of a good ole ASP 500 error. I really can’t remember cause it was the 8th beer I rated today. i think it was kinda malty and sweet and I recall a big 2 finger head that faded fast to a half pinky head...maybe honey colred. maybe not bad. I’m not sure.

Golden yellow out of the bottle with very little head. Sweet, grainy nose. Strong malty flavor, but lots of stale cardboard. This was the last bottle in the beer cooler at a grocery store in Eagle River, Alaska, so it might have been old. I'll re-rate if I'm ever in Alaska in season.

Amber color atop a minimal ring of whisp. Subtle toasty aroma with notes of honey, flowers, and nuts. Decent for the style. Flavors are very straighforward. Honey and toast with understated hop presence. Another bland Summer offering. This is why I stick with IPA’s and other similar styles in the Summers. I cannot wait until the day that someone does this style some justice.

Poured a dull yellow-copper clouded body with a silky whitish head. Yeasty nose coupled with Bavarian maltiness. Bready, grainy, well hopped. Very much a kolsch. Sessionable as the day is long. Pairs well with spicy foods and/or hot sauces.

12oz bottle from BevMo Carmel. Pours a rusty golden color with a light white head. Nose of citrus, spice, and herbal hops.
