Commercial Description:
Based on the traditional style of Kölsch beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. Haines Booth Our Crew loves the chance to hook up with Alaskan fans at festivals! Flavor Profile: Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer. History: Brewed in our original brewhouse in 1997, this beer is part of our Rough Draft series and has met success with each limited edition release. The enthusiastic reception led the Brew Crew to bring it to the West Coast as a summer seasonal. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. Crafted from Pale, Munich, Vienna and wheat malts, with Hallertauer hops and our own house yeast.

Probably well done for the style... I just don’t care for the style; it’s way too subdued and bland. Like an ale trying to be a run of the mill pilsener.

6/14/08 On draught at the Washington Brewers Festival. Aroma is all sweet malt with a cornlike pils quality and a light noble hop background. Appearance is clear yellow with a medium white head. Flavor is sweet/sour malt forward with medium noble hop bittering and light fruitiness. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carb texture and a slightly resiny finish. Overall, very easy drinking and demonstrates a suprising amount of classic European character.

Nice, clear golden colored body with a small, mostly diminishing white head. Aroma of sweet malts and floral hops in the background. Light to medium body with crisp carbonation and a fairly smooth mouthfeel. Nice flavors of malts and hops are well balanced between themselves. Finish is mildly sweet with a touch of hop bitterness. Nice Kolsch, one of the better American brewed of the style. Very tasty and delicately flavored with a good balance and lots of refreshing character.

Bottle. Probably the best Summer beer I had this season. It pours golden with a ncie head. Aromas of orange zest and spices. Flavors of malts, spices and orange with a hint of hops. It is refreeshing but not watery and it is quite complex. I am not sure what makes it a Koelsch though.

Sweet aroma, like vienna malt, banana flavour, medium palate with weak murky finish.

Good and has more flavor than I expected from a Summer Kolsch. Still though these tend to be weak, imo. Plenty drinkable but needs more hops.
