COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter comes early in Alaska, so we release Alaskan Winter Ale in October. The tender new growth of spruce trees has been used for brewing in Alaska since the late 1700s when explorers sailed the coast of Alaska looking for the Northwest Passage. Alaskan Brewing revives this tradition, adding spruce tips to its Alaskan Winter Ale.

The best thing I’ve had from Alaskan. Pours a medium amber with visible carbonation and a medium head that dissipates pretty fast. Little to no aroma. Taste is very smooth, almost too sweet, very little bitterness present. Something I would definitely drink again.

Old ale? Really?? "pretty week beer underneath the spruce tips and all the other spices, but they are done well. maybe i just expect winter brews to be darker and/or stronger or more aggressive. pleasant enough, with a somewhat unique flavor profile. worth trying, at least every couple years."

Clear amber pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, a hint of pine, nice spicy notes and a little citrus. Flavor is toffee, dark caramel, sweet woody notes, sweet spruce, bready, fruity and spicy yeast, marmalade and a hint of ginger. Medium body, chewy feel, light to medium carbonation and still chewy, but slightly more syrupy finish. Really tasty stuff, a nice, sweet, but complex and still somewhat well balanced beer.

I am blown away by this beer. Normally it’s not necessarily my style of beer but this just wowed me. I thought that this was just a delicious Beer, the best Alaskan beer that I have had.

The appearance has a hazy orange color, some fine-grain sediment, and a minimal off-white head, and the aroma blends caramel malts, fig, and a hint of cinnamon. The taste is slightly sour, mildly sweet, slightly spice-filled and a touch bitter, which is a quite nice flavor, especially with how crisp the flavor is on the tongue; the palate fuses a soft carbonation with a bite, slick texture, medium body, and a slightly sour and malty finish.

Pours a darker amber color with off white head and a decent amount of it. Dark fruits on the nose initially, with some pine as well (probably the spruce they are talking about). You can definitely get a woody character on the palate with this one. Finishes sweet.

12 oz. bottle. Appearance: finger white head, amber color, clear, no lacing. Aroma: wheat, malt, spruce. Palate: very dry finish, light body, average to lively carbonation, light alcoholic texture. Taste: very sweet, light bitterness on end. Overall, poor balance and nothing notable.

Aroma is grains, mild vinous notes and a hint of tobacco. The flavor is fruit/dark fruit, mild spruce overtones, a hint of vinous qualities and a mix of sweetness and slight heat in the finish.

Bottle. Light smoky toffee malt and spruce aroma. Amber with minimal head. Sweet, lactic caramel malt flavor. Pretty good but mild.
