CharlesDarwin (1409), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2006 Updated: Dec 20, 2006 Orangey musk aroma, with crisp malt notes and a long waft of forest. Pour of deep amber orange, rim of whitish. Flavor is a bristly, bright fresh tasting sugar malt, with hints of toffee, caramel and cream. This rolls into a delightful deep woods pine tang, with lemon, bark and lots of mysterious vegetal character. Body is exquisite. Smack freshens up with some highlighted fruit, a la apricot rolling in lemongrass. So, as an Old Ale, this really isn’t that bad, in fact it has nice character and could maybe use a little more body, but I think it does well for the style actually.
alraicercsu (106), Ft.Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a copper color with a nice white head. Smells malty and a bit floral. Tastes spicy with a nice sweet flavor. HoppyGuy (105), USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is light, a bit floral and of toffee and caramel. Flavor is a bit spicy, with some sweetness from some berry. The spruce is there, but is an undertone. Just enogh hops to make it interesting, but not enough to drive people away. I’d like to pair this brew with pork tenderloin prepared with a marianberry reduction sauce. bager (2060), Copenhagen N, Denmark Jul 22, 2008 Bottle thanks to Zack. Almost clear and golden in colour with a medium sized head. Interesting but a bit weird. Notes of malt, marmelade, spruce, spices, hops and berries. Theis (2212), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 27, 2008 Bottle at home - tasting. Clear golden - white head. Spicy, berries, knækbrød, dryness, high dryness, hoppy, sweetness, marmelade, raspberries, spruce...... a bit wierd. hittheroad (1), San Jose, California, USA does not count May 27, 2008 Initial flavour of sweet blueberries without a tart aftertaste. A bit of spruce evens out the flavour. The finish is hoppy in an inoffensive manner--good for those who like flavourful beer without a heavy hops taste.
