COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter comes early in Alaska, so we release Alaskan Winter Ale in October. The tender new growth of spruce trees has been used for brewing in Alaska since the late 1700s when explorers sailed the coast of Alaska looking for the Northwest Passage. Alaskan Brewing revives this tradition, adding spruce tips to its Alaskan Winter Ale.

medium amber pour with aromas of yeast and slight spruce - flavors are a rather sweet raspberry malt with lingering raspberry.

Aroma is grains, mild vinous notes and a hint of tobacco. The flavor is fruit/dark fruit, mild spruce overtones, a hint of vinous qualities and a mix of sweetness and slight heat in the finish.

Bottle. Light smoky toffee malt and spruce aroma. Amber with minimal head. Sweet, lactic caramel malt flavor. Pretty good but mild.

Bottle from 99 Bottles (Federal Way, WA). Sweet, lightly spiced nose. Pretty copper color. A bock-like initial / candy and Coca-Cola and brown sugar in mid -- the spruce tips add a little spicy note here / balanced sweetish finish. Medium body. Nice enough. Could use a little more body.

Bottle from Windy City. Pours attractive light orange colour, with almost no head. Sweet aroma, too sweet cold. At warmer temperature you can pick out of the syrup from herb and spruce. More spruce, sir!

Bottle: Clear, bubbly, amber-orange with a thin soapy, head. Caramel/toffee aroma....herbals... Taste is cola, sweet toffee with a pleasant, evergreen, cooling tone. Pine/Spruce/Menthol. Very nice....a little different.

Hiero (127) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 8, 2014
Spicy flavor with a somewhat light body for a winter ale. Interesting taste on the front, but a little watery on the finish. If you want a drinkable winter ale, this is pretty good. If you want a full-flavored thick body, then try something else.

Happened upon this beer last Thanksgiving 2012. fFound this beer to be surprisingly tasty , unique, and hard to find. Looking forward to this years batch for 2013-14! Purchased an ample supply only to find the taste falling short of our previous experience. Greatly disappointed by lack of flavor and seemed flat, "like left over from last years beer".

A mixture of cola and spruce flavors. One of the more unique beers that I have tried. A new favorite for me, at least in the snowy winter months.

bottle, pours a clear amber with small off white head. Aromas of caramel, spice. Tastes of spice, caramel, fruity, toasty, with an alcohol or maybe spruce taste. Overall, decent beer.

Appearance: bronze, clear, smaller tan head, head dissipates quickly Aroma: strong malty grain, creamy, milk, Taste: strong malty, grainyness, kind of sweet Palate: heavier mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, kind of sweet aftertaste Overall: very good beer, it's all malt and grain, perfect to contrast against an ipa ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
