Commercial Description:
Style: English Olde Ale. Traditionally malty with the warming sensation of alcohol, Olde Ales are brewed in the fall as winter warmers.

Flavor Profile: Brewed in the style of an English Olde Ale, this ale balances the sweet heady aroma of spruce tips with the clean crisp finish of noble hops. Its malty richness is complemented by the warming sensation of alcohol.

History: From the seafaring adventurers of the 1700s to the homebrewers of today, adding spruce tips to beer has a rich history in Southeast Alaska. The tender new growth of Sitka spruce tips lends a delicious, yet subtly sweet floral aroma to tea, jelly and now Alaskan Winter Ale.

Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Ice Field. A complex blend of six malts including Pale, Wheat, Munich and caramelized malts. Prized Czechoslovakian Saaz hops and Sitka spruce tips.

This one is a winner, and that might be because it appears to be a clone of another winner, Alba Scot ale. Spiced aroma. Flavor has lots of pine and medium sweet malt, but not perceivable hops and that is OK. Alcohol seems low for an old ale, maybe a spiced beer instead.

Clear copper pour with a small head that fizzes away quickly. Aroma of malt and citrus. Sweet malty fruit flavor with just a hint of spice and hops. Alright.

Draft. Pours copper with a white head. Strong orange smells. Good orange flavors, a pine aftertaste. Very clean and crisp.

Pours a nice clear copper, smells piney and earthy. tastes the same, kind of minty, finishes clean with a little bit of alcohol warmth. VERY similar to anderson valley’s winter solstice. not bad, but not what i was expecting. too much carmel sweetness.

This surprised me with the color! It has a bright copper color, I guess all winter warmers don’t have to be dark. The flavor is very heavy on the malt balance. It is very carmally, and somewhat cloying.

Non descript was the headline of my notes. Safe orange color with no head. Semi-sweet on the nose. A bit of sharpness that rounds off in the mouth. As it warms it improves. Lingers nicely.
