COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter comes early in Alaska, so we release Alaskan Winter Ale in October. The tender new growth of spruce trees has been used for brewing in Alaska since the late 1700s when explorers sailed the coast of Alaska looking for the Northwest Passage. Alaskan Brewing revives this tradition, adding spruce tips to its Alaskan Winter Ale.

Carmel and buttery sweetness on the nose. Slight pine, and substantial grainyness. Butterscotch, cherry, hazelnuts and spruce are readily identified in the taste. Moderate maltyness, decent floral hop balance in the mid. Finish is somehow disappointing, to quick and dry, not enough legs on the malt. Palate is syrupy. One of the better readily available winter seasonals

No aroma or taste of spruce in this beer. The aroma was sweet to me like the sweetness from malt. Amber and clear in color with very little head or carbonation. Tasted very sweet with a sweet finish.

Excellent head, but little lace. Neutral amber color and crystal clear Strongly malty, nice crystal; slightly sweet. Mild hop. Some sherry-like flavors from the sweeter malt. Some fruitiness. The aftertaste is very short, but has a touch of hop to it. Good hop in the middle of the taste. Full body, low carbonation. This is a relatively rich and slightly warming (from alcohol) beer. Understandable to be offered during the winter.

A sweet aroma comes a clear golden pour with a thin white ring and no lacing. The taste is fruit sweetness, spices, caramel and malts. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, ok, but too sweet (Big Red) for me.

Poured from a 12. Aroma is berry, spruce and Christmas. Flavor is berry sweet, but like artificial berry flavor. Has a lip balm flavor to it. Finish is fairly smooth, but the sweetness does not sit well in my stomach.

12 oz bottle. Aroma: malty, with hints of biscuit and cotton candy. Taste/Palate: thin, sweet, and creamy.

Bottle. Amber body with a short, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, pine. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, sticky texture, lively carbonation. The spruce is obvious in the sweet finish. Average at best.

Draft at a small pub in MI from notes. Light gold with a white head. Hay and grass. Mild overall with nothing sticking out.

Pailhead (5634) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - FEB 7, 2015
Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate spruce with some light caramel, toffee, and spice. It pours a transparent amber with a one finger off-white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel. There are some light spruce/pine notes in the middle. The finish has a light-moderate gummy life-savors and light spice. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall, the gummy life-savor flavors are too much for me.

Tap. Dark, clearish copper. Banana, clove nose. Really solid Belgian entry -- candi sugar, banana, clove.

bottle. Deep amber with one finger head. Medium malt with a bit of spruce sweetness. Mild hop bitterness. Interesting take on this style.
