Brewed at the Orange, CA location. A strong, German-style, amber lager. It has a big malty flavor and a sweet, warming finish.

Poured from a growler. Color is dark brown with a slight reddish hue and a thick tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey with some very light roasted character through the middle and a touch of alcohol on the finish. Palate is light/medium bodied with just the slightest stickiness in the mouthfeel. Nice lacing down the glass. I’m not very familiar with this style but it seems similar to a Schwarzbier but with more emphasis on the sweet and chocolate flavors and less on the roasted and coffee flavors.

OC tour, tap at Orange brewpub (Annihilator Doppelbock): Deep purple hue with small lasting head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of plum, grape, fig, caramel, toffee, walnut and herbal hop. The taste is very fruity and malty. A nice spicy tone throughout and a hint of molasses twang. The mouth feel is rich and lush, warming. Really nice bock, I dig it.

On tap at Orange brewpub. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, bready malts, and some dark fruit. Flavors of dark fruits, dark bready malts, caramel, and some toffee. Pretty solid dopplebock and by far the best beer on tap

Tasted at the 2005 Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest. Medium gold color. Small head. Aroma is very mild, malty, fruity and estery. Medium bodied dopplebock. Malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. Very smooth. Mildly spicy hops. Nice balance. Doesn’t have a lot of the huge malt character one would expect in a dopplebock, but a nice drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

On tap @ the brewpub. Menu lists this at 7.8%. Clear deep red with a one finger creamy beige head, slowly fading to a thick film. Toast dominates, scorched caramel and light dry chocolate and nuts behind. Flavor is pretty caramelly and toasty nutty. Dry chocolate finish with some ETOH. Bitterness peaked at a 2-3 and was earthy. Moderate prickly carbonation with a full body. One of the drier doppels I’ve had, thankfully, and not too bad at all.
