3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest. Clear orange/yellow pour with big head. Musty sweet malt aroma, maybe a touch of tang. Sweet malty and fruity flavors, a bit more of that twang. Sweet finish, a bit too swet for the lighter body of the beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A: The pour is a dark brown/cola color with a thin off-white head.
S: A very heavy roast to the nose, unusual for a doppelbock. Mildly acidic with some dark fruit notes of cherries and prunes. A less pronounced sweetness than you would expect with dark chocolate and molasses.
T: The beer starts out with a cola sweetness and some hints of cherries and plums. Very roasty and much more bitter than I’ve ever experienced in a doppelbock. Some alcohol notes on the finish, which is harsh overall.
M: The body is medium with a smooth carbonation. Unfortunately, the finish is sort of ruined by the alcohol presence.
D: I was looking forward to this out of all the fall seasonals, but must say I was let down. This was more of a German Porter than a doppelbock, anyway.

Draft at Anaheim location. Clear reddish pour, small off-white head. Sweet malt, spoiled fruit, caramel, and SWEET! I did not enjoy this at all, terrible beer.
