Sampled at the brewpub on 2/27/2012. This amber ale pours a medium amber reddish color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, slightly sweet and malty. A medium bodied amber ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and floral. Good carbonation. Touch of orange. Some malt sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Sample at the pub. Rating #16. Dark amber color with a light tan head. Nice combo of sweet caramel and light hops and again, really clean. (1790)

Meh - I felt like most of the beer at Alcatraz was pretty mediocre - this one was no exception. This one at least had some body - a bit more aggressive malt and some nice hoppy bitterness. Red in color (of course?) and a thin white head. Not very memorable, but not terrible.

Draft at Anaheim location. Clear amber pour, small off-white head. Caramel, light bready malt, bitter hops. Boring, but one of the better beers at the place, sadly.

Draft. An amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and toffee as well as lighter notes of hops, toasted bread, and lemon, leading to a lightly bitter finish.

On tap at the Orange location. Pours with a clear amber bronze body with a lasting off-white head. Grainy, toasty, biscuity aroma. A bit bitter with some caramel notes. Flavors are grainy, caramel, with some fruity notes. Light carbonation. A pretty typical amber ale.

A: Pours a clear, copper color with a fluffy off-white head which had poor retention. S: The nose is fairly typical for an Amber. A lot of caramel malt with some slight fruitiness and toast. Not too much in the way of hops, but a slight citrus character. T: I was expecting this one to be overly sweet, but was pleasantly surprised. Of course, there is the caramel sweetness and toasted malt with a pleasant bitterness provided by the hops. M: The body is medium (maybe a bit on the light side) with a moderate level of carbonation. D: One of the better offerings from ABC. Given some of the other draft choices, I would definitely recommend this one if you’re here.
