Sigmund (1963), Hafrsfjord, Norway Jul 13, 2007 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 7.5%. Deep brown colour, large to moderate tan head. Vinous aroma, sherry, oak, raisins, dark fruits. Very rich, malty, sweet, fruity and vinous flavour. Robust and far from easy drinking - still very, very good! This must be a classic old ale - one to save for Christmas (after dinner). thewolf (3989), Kolding, Denmark Dec 23, 2007 Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours a lightly muddy deep brown with a small creamy off white head. It disappears rather quickly. Aroma is heavily malty with caramel, toffee, roasted malts and a light hoppiness. Medium carbonation with a very thick, oily mouthfeel. Flavour is powerful with a light peity smoky edge. Lots of dark toffe as well. Not sweet, but with a powerful malty presence with a feel of dried fruits. Obvious hops in the aftertaste with grass and flowers dominating. Nice and soft all in all. Fin (2375), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Dec 3, 2006 Bottle picked up at SH Jones, Bicester, Oxon, 02-12-06. This beer poured a very dark amber colour and had a very fruity (dried fruits) aroma. Intriguing taste including dried fruits, coffee, liqorice, simpy stunning range of flavours, I really, enjoyed this excellent beer. SilkTork (3943), Rochester, Kent, England Nov 14, 2005 Nov, 2005. Kilburn Palace Bottle Fest. Soft chocolate malt. Inviting, warm and pleasant. Spiesy (2331), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Dec 6, 2005 Bottled. Dull washed out brown with reddish hue (but that’s an old ale). Lovely understated character. Alcoholic hoppy aroma. Rustic complex flavour, plenty to explore if you can stand the %. Really enjoyed this little puppy.
