Draught @ The Bear, Camberwell, London. Pours black beer with brown enduring head. Nose of coffee, smooth and soft taste. Balanced coffee notes: very nice and elegant. Perhaps you need to be a fan of coffee to like this one but I’m impressed.

Draught @ The Bear, Camberwell, London. Pours black with sticky beige head. Aroma is of strong coffee / chocolate / malts. Taste is smoky / chocolate / coffee with a bitter chewy feel. Pretty good stout, very nice.

Bottled - thanks to Hddonsman for this. A beautiful beige head sits atop this black beer on pouring, and remarkably the head colour then changes to an off-white. The aroma is fruity and a touch sour. Some milky roasty notes. There is coffee in the flavour, but hints of sourness also. This sourness can be blamed on the fact the beer is past its best before date, but I would have expected better.

Bottle conditioned. Deep black pour with an attractive layer of sticky tan head. Big roast aroma, coffee, toast, crackers, underlying sour chocolate. Rather chewy sour flavor, a bit of coffee and smokey chocolate, but front and center--dramatic sourness. An old-fashioned sort of stout with loads of character. Thanks Simon!

Cask at GBBF 2006. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted coffee, a nice expresso roasted, combined with light notes of chocolate. THe flavor is sweet with strong notes of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt, towards the end a slight acidity from the coffee mixes in with bitterness from the roasted malt. Nice body for a 5% ABV beer.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of chocolate, and so is the flavor, but here mixed with light acidic notes from the hard roasted malt. [7/5/6/3/12]
