A nutty brown, a change of pace. Some toasted malt, bitterness tasted though only 35 IBU. More demonstration of the brewmaster’s skills, as opposed to merely filling in the line, this is quality. Hoppy, carmel, a tad of vanilla from some wood? Very brown colour. Medium bodied.

Draft at the brewpub - Poured a clear brown in color with a thick tan head. Aroma was a nice mix of roasted malts and fruity hops. Some butterscotch-vanilla too. Flavor matched the aroma pretty well. Was more bitter than I expected, but that is never a problem for me. Very nice...

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2006 January 2004: sample at the pub. Extremely light in color, no head. Forboding. Really nice nutty-vanilla-butterscotch (hey I LIKE diacetyl) nose, decent body with some oaky touches, sweet and malty but with hops more present than usual in style. 7/2/6/3/12 3.0

September 2006: 12 oz glass on cask; this year’s edition is 6.4% and 35 IBU, pretty intense for a brown ale. The aroma is absolutely succulent, brown sugared hazelnuts and almond, caramelized malts, light leafy hops underneath....on the tongue fairly bitter as you’d expect with strong nut qualities throughout, oily and viscous....somewhat hard at the finish though this mellows after a few minutes in the glass; still a fine, fine effort and worlds better than the initial release 2 1/2 years ago.
