I am one of few who have had this...as it is tough to get. Worth the trades and the waits...big floral pine aroma...big bitterness good way. Just a perfect XXIPA. And in a can...superb.

The elusive Heady Topper. This is my second time with the brew, although I didnít get a chance to review it the first time, and am glad I waited since I have a better idea of what is out there since that first experience. The pour is a light tangerine topped with a porous, rocky head that reminds me of the creamy on a Creamsicle. I can smell the hops coming up from the surface, lightly caramel with a tangerine-grapefruit combination on the front side, mild and inviting. The sensation on my tongue is lightly bitter, but very nicely balanced with the malts...not uncomfortable at all, and with a lasting flavor of resiny grapefruits. The experience on the swallow is not dropping me with amazement, but itís tasty, no doubt. As instructed, I did drink from the can but saved about 60% for my tulip. Either vessel was generally the same gustatory experience, and I enjoyed the brew quite a bit from both equally. Itís a really good beer with a high IBU that is made comfortable by a well balanced recipe. The Alchemist has done an amazing job of creating a beautiful DIPA, and a great job of marketing it! (I will most definitely recycle this can!)

From the can. Pours opaque gold with a thick fizzy bubbly white head. Smells like resin, musky hops, grapefruit, sweat, pine and citrus hops. Smells even better from the can. Tastes like grapefruit, resin, orange citrus hops, smooth booze, caramel. Tastes even better from the can as well.

Can. Pours hazy bright gold with creamy white head. Aroma is bready and cereal malts, tropical fruit and citrus esters, some dank and grassy notes, and faint spice. Flavor is a huge burst of super flavorful grassy and citrus hops, tropical fruit esters, great malt base, and some faint alcohol spice. Extremely well balanced with medium/full body and medium carbonation.

Huge pineapple and citrus hop aroma. Cloudy golden color with a minimal off-white crown. Pine and pineapple flavor. Ample bitterness without going over the top. Smooth and oily texture. Overall, this is a great IPA and I really like the hop profile, but Iím not sure itís quite as awesome or special as its reputation would lead one to believe...

Poured half the can into an ipa glass and savored the rest in the can. Beautiful looking beer with a great pillow-cap fluffy head that seems to last quite awhile. The aroma of lemony tangerines and grapefruit is delightful. Real easy to drink, the 8% not noticeable, and the smoothness is ridiculous! Also I enjoyed the lack of a bitter aftertaste. To summarize; Heady Topper was the most wonderful and amazing IPA I have had to opportunity to try. The hype is well deserved and all my expectations were met! Well done indeed.

16oz can pours a hazy yellow brown color color without much head. Nice hop profile, though a little harsh. Noticeable alcohol. Nice complexity from the yeast.

Beautiful. Pours great amber colour with frothed white head, laces the glass well with each sip. Aroma is incredible. Huge hops with grapefruit, orange and citrus. Taste is smooth, hard to guess without looking that this is an 8% beer.

Some can descriptions are never accurate! And some are right on like this one: "so drinkable itís scary", "young fresh and hazy", "wave after wave of hoppy goodness on your palate","dense hoppy finish in your mouth","an unfiltered and unpasteurized experience","not intended to be the biggest or the most bitter","I wish I could crawl right into the can" -John Kimmich, aka the Alchemist, describes his beer the best right on the can! I must say I believe the hype on heady topper! I donít think Ive ever consumed a beer so quick, wave after wave of hoppy goodness is a perfect description! sweet lemon butter tannins to ripe peach honeyness to satsuma tangerineís to sweet ruby red and pink grapefruitís. I want more! And would love to try on draft!
