Drinking a beer by Alchemist in and of itself is hilarious because of a certain man who was convinced that he was going to take his hard earned deployment money and invest it into a machine that can turn anything into anything. He said he was going to be turning tires, fucking tires, into gold! He said it was an "alchemist machine." This same guy was put in charge of peopleís lives. Anyway, this beer is off the chain good. Mind blowing, if you will. Thanks to TJ for sharing it with me.

Lives up to the hype. Incredibly hoppy and drinkable. Pours a very hazy gold with minimal head. Total hop assault on the senses. Makes me want move to Vermont.

Lauded and respectable. Is it the best IPA ever? No. Is it eminently drinkable? Yep. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2015 Trade from Ready4aHeady. Thanks man!!!! Can poured to tulip so I can see it. Some sediment. This isnít super pretty, but the beautiful creaminess of the head brings the appearance up to a 4. Will go from can next time. Pours a hazy light golden copper color with just under one finger head. Big floral pineapple and grapefruit aromas, sweetness, mango. Yum. Flavor is heavier on the bitter pine up front, some earthy dirt (in a good way), with some beautiful tropical fruit lingering on the palate, and a pretty dry finish. Almost a creamy feel as I get through this. This highlights the tropical hops for sure. Slick mouthfeel but plenty of carbonation to lighten things up. Is this am excellent DIPA? Yes. Did it live up to the hype for me? Probably not. But very nice in a very different way from some other in the style. Would still likely go for Dreadnaught, Hopslam, Pliny, and Enjoy By before this one. But thatís pretty good company. I will revisit tomorrow with a fresh palate to make sure, and try out of a can.

Visited the cannery a couple of weeks ago and picked up two four packs and have been slowly enjoying them, out of the can, in a glass, etc... Cloudy orange-gold with a good sized white frothy head (when poured into a glass of course). Nose was balance of grassy and grapefruit, and the taste was somewhat balanced, but a bit hop forward. Does it live up to its reputation? Not sure, but it is damn good and I put it right up there with Double Jack and Pliny.

Rating #100. Something special for this one. Heady Topper, canned the same day and straight from the source in Waterbury, VT at The Alchemist. Couldnít resist pouring this into a snifter. Pours hazy golden yellow with 1 finger head. Nice lacing. Nose is so unique, like no other hoppy beer Iíve smelled, and awesome! Aromas are super dank, resin, pine, hops, leaves, sap. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth, with well done amounts of carbonation to balance it out. Taste is resin, pine, sap, occasional peach, tangerine notes, grass, greens, bitter, nice complexity, if thereís such a thing as a balanced hop bomb then this is it. Finish is peach, fruity notes, creeping bitterness that takes over the palette but in a good way. This really is a great beer. Love it! (From 10/23 notes)

Cracked a can this evening that is 2months off the line. First burst of aroma is definitely classic grapefruit and pine, with a wet earthy smell emerging as I drink, no yeast/malt on the nose. Bitterness is surprisingly subdued until the end when it merges with a dry finish to give it that oft mentioned drinkability. Two big surprises: the first is that with all the hops in there, the bitterness is not stronger; most of the hop power is in the aroma and flavor and it almost drinks like a hop elixir. The second big surprise for me is the mouthfeel. This beer has a very round, creamy malt backbone that is not strong but really coats the palate and lets you enjoy the hops for more than just the first second after you sip. Reminded me a bit of the Denogginizer from Drakes Bay (90ibu) in the balance they maintain with so much hop, but Heady Topper has a superior mouthfeel and finish. The unfiltered quality of this beer may definitely be a factor. Despite the marketing, I am still rating the appearance: Burnt orange with robust head that dissipates quickly, no lacing. The beer does seem to loose some aromatic intensity when poured into a glass. Overall, a stellar treat for hopheads. I love it when I find a beer that tries to do one thing really really well and never looks back.

Tried a small sample at a BeerThief gathering. This has been hyped to the limit, so weíll see how it works out. We poured these out into glasses (sorry, brewmaster) to limit the spread of disease. The colour was a surprising cloudy yellow. Maybe thatís why they want you to drink it from the can. The aroma is hop all over. Grapefruit and pine, back and forth. Taste sensation is mainly sharp. Bitter, but still smooth and moreish. Thereís a really, really late dryness that makes you want to keep drinking, but alas itís gone. Lived up to the hype!
