3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can to snifter. Light murky amber color. Ok smell bit not the best aroma of the dipas I’ve had. Nice sweet start with a bitter finish that lingers.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pint can. Pale yellow with sediment. Thin white head with medium sized bubbles. Citrus, pine, hops and honey aromas. Sweet upfront an then really piney finish. Body changes from smooth to astringent as well.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
I live in NJ and just got a case of 24 x 16’s home from the brewery. Definitely worth an almost 4 hour round trip detour from some business I was doing in southern Vermont. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Being a DIPA and me being IPA lover...it takes a lot for me to rate an IPA this high. You definitely don’t taste the 8%. I poured my first one out in a large Sam Adams glass. Great head that stood firm and tall...but then fell in on itself pretty quickly like a soufflé. Still got the great aromas...although smelling into the can after the pour revealed some additional intensity. The hops in this beer are very enjoyable...with a lot of complex flavors...but what’s most amazing is how smooth this highly hopped 8% IPA drinks. Obviously the scarcity of the beer and difficulty in getting outside of northern Vermont just add to the allure.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: SEP 14, 2013 Can - thanks MWBrady12. Pours hazy amber with a quadrillion floaties. Oh-oh. Small white head that dissipates quickly but leaves nice lacing. Aroma is not strong; citrus pine and caramel - pretty standard stuff. Flavor is actually pretty pleasant for an IPA that is clearly past its prime. Nice citrus and pine dominating, a bit of sweetness, medium bitter through to the finish. Full bodied and intensely creamy/oily mouthfeel - 5+ for that one! This is a good beer, I am extremely interested to find out what it is like when fresh.
Rerate with a two day old can. Ok, this is an amazing beer when fresh.

Bottle at a bottle share. Pours a clear dark golden color with a moderate head. Nose and taste are bitter and hoppy. Great beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
From the can. Intense tropical/dank aroma. Amazing hop flavor on the palate that is a wave of hop intensity. Tropical, grapefruit, a little piney, dank that lingers on your palate and leaves you wanting more. No sign of the 8% and no bitter at all compared to other DIPA. THE best DIPA I’ve ever had.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2013 Can. Believe the hype. The only reason this doesn’t score a perfect 5 is that it isn’t the prettiest beer to look at (which is probably why they want you to drink straight from the can). Had this side by side with Pliny the Younger, and although Pliny is great, this was the clear winner.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
I can’t report much on appearance because I tried this as directed - from the can. Nose was citrus - grapefruit, mango and pineapple along with some pine, grassiness and floral elements. Taste followed with big citrus flavors, especially grapefruit and orange, but with a biscuity, caramel malt for balance. Bitterness was there but not overwhelming. It predominates in the aftertaste as well, along with pine oil and honey. Mouthfeel was medium and mildly carbonated. There is little to no alcohol burn. I can understand why so many people love this beer…it was great…just not my all-time favorite as it is for so many.
